KEY FACTORS: Mechanical broadheads are usually more accurate, but blades sometimes break. Fixed blades are tougher and seldom break. I now shoot mechanicals like the Rage or Grim Reaper so I can always hit the vitals of the deer.

I prefer to use expandable or mechanical broadheads for deer hunting. An expandable or mechanical broadhead have blades that are folded into the ferrule in flight, then open upon impact. I have never had an expandable broadhead fail to open, but blades do sometimes break when they hit heavy bone.

Selecting the right broadhead can make the difference between a clean kill and a missed opportunity. Different broadheads, types of broadheads, bleeder blades, heavier broadhead, number of blades, blade sharpness all contribute to the best for each different hunting requirement. Your favorite broadhead from last year may not be the best types of broadhead this year. New mechanical or fixed-blade broadheads may give best results.
