Best AR-15 Rifle Sling in 2024: Range Tested & Approved

0

Are you looking for a way to comfortably carry your firearm & help you quickly switch between a rifle and sidearm?

If so…you need a good ‘ole rifle sling.

Rifle slings are perfect for ensuring a steady and accurate shot, which is why they’re a favorite among many sharpshooters.

But there’s a bazillion of them out there.

So to help you out, I’ll go over choosing the right material, types of sling, and sling mounting systems. Oh…and, of course, some specific models.

We also have a video going over the benefits of 2-point slings and our favorite ones…

And now, after years of using all the slings out there, we’ve come out with our own.

We’re focusing on the AR-15 since it’s America’s favorite rifle…but a lot of these options will also work for other long-guns and even precision rifle rigs.

THE QUICK LIST

Best AR-15 Rifle Slings

Editor’s Pick AR-15 Sling – Pew Pew Tactical Flatline Sling

We know what we wanted in a sling:

  • not TOO long so you have to deal with excess
  • stupid simple length adjustment
  • a nice pull-tab
  • just the right amount of padding
  • MULTICAM

We would obviously sew our fingers together so we began our search of new manufacturers out there that were making a name for themselves.

We went with Flatline Fiber to create the Pew Pew Tactical Sling.

Made by hand in Georgia…and with plenty of stellar reviews to boot. Us being one of them.

We have our PPT laser gun logo on Multicam, both regular and black, of course.

A very nice pull tab…these things make a big difference.

And just the right amount of padding that’s slightly less than the Vickers padded version. If you’re not on sentry duty with a 15-pound behemoth this amount of padding is perfect.

Also one thing that’s overlooked…it has the right amount of length so you’re not ending up cutting material when attaching.

Troop Favorite AR-15 Sling – VTAC

The Viking Tactics is a popular two-point sling that’s designed to boost comfort and freedom of movement.

The upgrade/hybrid version has stronger hardware and feels lighter. Used by tons of U.S. troops.

One common complaint is that it is built for an 8-foot monster. However, that’s because the extra length is set for people wearing armor or using it on a long shotgun.

I follow Kyle Lamb’s advice and use some duct tape to tape off the excess…never know when it might come in handy.

One thing that sets it apart from other slings is that it feels light but still super strong.

Also, there are two pull tabs you use to adjust the length — one to cinch it and one to let it go.

Highly recommend watching this video of Kyle Lamb for install and use.

And also highly recommend going with at least something padded if you’re going to be standing around for a few hours on patrol (or even a class).

The VTAC’s padding is thin but makes a world of difference. Especially if you’re going to be standing around a while with your rifle at your side.

My specific version that I use is the padded upgraded/hybrid multicam.

Also Great AR-15 Sling – Blue Force Gear Vickers Sling

Another used by tons of US troops is the Vickers Sling by Blue Force Gear.

There’s also a padded version for enhanced comfort.

Check it out in action…

Note that it only has one tab to deal with…

The length is also more manageable…no duct tape is needed but you might not be able to put it on very long shotguns (or if you’re huge and/or wearing a lot of gear).

The padding is also a little thicker than the VTAC.

But the nylon of the sling itself feels stiffer and is definitely thicker.

And given the choice between padded and not padded versions, definitely go with padded.

What’s your take on the Vickers?

Best Single Point Sling – Magpul MS4 Dual QD Gen2

If you’re looking for a single-point sling that’s comfortable, durable, and easy to adjust, try the Magpul MS4 Sling.

Its 1.25-inches wide nylon material is strong enough to resist wear and tear from constant use but soft enough to prevent chaffing and discomfort.

Additionally, it can be converted to a two-point sling when you grow tired of hitting yourself in the nuts.

The newest Gen2 model has two heavy-duty QD sling swivels and a better quick-adjust slider.

Best 3 Point Sling – Specter Three Point Sling

When it comes to three-point slings, comfort is key.

You don’t want to have something strapped to your body that feels excessively tight or restricts your movement more than it should. Many people prefer Specter Three Point Slings because they’re less likely to cause chafing or affect the wearer’s range of motion.

However, like we go over down below…unless you’re already trained in three point slings and don’t want to try something else…we’d forego this for a two-point option.

Best Precision Sling – Ching Sling

It is made up of two straps, a standard two-point sling and an additional smaller strap connected to the gun’s center stud.

Think of the Ching sling as a two-point sling that was optimized for the “hasty sling” method of shooting.

As you’re carrying a rifle with the Ching sling, the small strap can be slid up and out of the way. When it comes time to shoot, simply loop your arm through the first loop, between the first and center studs, to get a steadier aim.

Works for the AR platform but used more for hunting or precision rifles.

I use a variant of this in NRL22 competition shooting to make unsupported standing shots a little easier.

Best Cuff Sling – Tactical Intervention

Cuff sling variations are a favorite among sharpshooters because they allow you to get a stable and accurate shot without the use of a bipod.

They’re easier to set up than loop sling methods like the “USGI sling” and are an excellent way to improve your aim.

The Tactical Intervention is a popular cuff sling that’s developed with military-grade nylon and is able to withstand regular wear-and-tear.

Again…geared more towards non-AR rifles and precision rigs. We see these more and more in rifle competitions such as NRL and NRL22.

Best Sling Accessories

Once you’ve got the sling, you’ve got to make sure you can attach it to your rifle.

Almost all of the slings mentioned will hook into your butt stock without any additional hardware…whether into the slits or using a QD (quick disconnect) mount.

If you don’t have that…or like having a connection on your end place…check out the BCM QD End Plate (perfect for single point slings).

You might need something for your handguard if it doesn’t already come with QD holes…however I found the factory ones are either too forward (gets in the way of lights) or too rear (too short for slinging on your back).

In that case you’ll need something like a Troy Rail Mount.

However, my current favorite is the Magpul RSA QD since it is adjustable and keeps the sling on one specific side. My loadout below gives me space to activate my light.

It also has anti-rotation so your sling doesn’t get jumbled up

And for actual QD mounts and swivel combos…

We go with Magpul QD Slings (exposed for easier pressing).

or the Midwest Industries (flush fit for added security).

My preference is the flush model since I don’t take on/off my slings that much…and having something accidentally disconnect your sling would suck.

Choosing the Right Material

Gun slings are typically made from one of two options: leather or nylon.

There is no clear-cut answer when it comes to which sling material is better.

Some people believe that nylon slings are better because they’re not as heavy, while others prefer leather because they feel it gives a slight elastic feel that nylon doesn’t.

I personally go with the nylon slings.

If you are someone who prefers the traction and style that comes with a leather sling, it’s important to note that they can stretch over the years.

Types of Gun Slings

There are three main types of gun slings: single-point, two-point, and three-point slings. Then some more specific ones applicable for sharpshooting.

I’ll give a brief explanation of each type first then list the pros and cons of each type of sling so that you can get an idea of which type suits your specific needs.

Single Point Slings

The single-point sling receives its name because it uses one connection point to attach to the gun.

The single-point sling is a favorite for a lot of gun enthusiasts.

The sling wraps around the user’s body while the point attaches to the rear of the weapon.

Pros

What makes the single-point sling a favorite among tactical shooters is that it makes dropping and picking up your weapon simple.

The beauty of the single-point sling is that it always sits directly in front of you (and most likely pointing in a safe direction down).

This makes it ideal for situations where you need to go quickly hands-free, but also must have the ability to quickly grab your weapon at a moment’s notice.

Another benefit of using the single-point sling is that it allows you to perform a wide range of movements such as transitions due to a barrier.

Additionally, your gun doesn’t have to be in front of you with a single-point sling.

You can also wear it in a way that keeps your weapon at your side or on your back. However, those options aren’t ideal for scenarios where you need quick access to your gun.

Cons

Despite the convenience and easy accessibility that comes with single-point slings, they aren’t without their drawbacks.

For starters, single-point slings provide little shooting support. Your aim with a single-point sling won’t be much better than it would be with no sling at all.

Another con of the single-point sling is your gun will sway a lot when you’re not holding it.

For some people, moving hands-free with a single-point sling can be especially annoying because they constantly get knocked in the groin or knees with their gun.

Here’s an example of a loose two-point sling but you can imagine it with merely one.

Once you find the proper tightness adjustment for your body, your single-point sling shouldn’t move as much.

And overall, it’s a great tactical piece for anyone who’s not in situations that require a lot of running.

Two Point Slings

The two-point sling is one of the most commonly-used gun slings and is sometimes known as a carrying strap.

As you may have guessed, two-point slings are named because they are attached to the gun with two connection points.

They are my favorite and the most versatile for the AR-15 and other rifles.

This sling connects to the rear and front of the firearm, on the bottom of the stock. It’s perfect for carrying a long gun over the shoulder during long hunting treks.

Pros

Not only are two-point slings great for carrying your weapon, but they can also be used to improve your aim.

There are three ways to carry a gun using the two-point sling:

  • American carry – slung over back of the shoulder, muzzle up.
  • European carry – slung over the front of the shoulder, muzzle up.
  • African carry – slung over the back of the shoulder, muzzle down.

Some people prefer the African carry because they feel it makes it easier to grab and aim your weapon. The downside to the African carry is that you risk clogging your muzzle with dirt and debris as you walk.

Remember when I said it can improve your aim?

Simply loop the sling around your non-dominant arm and use the tension to keep your weapon stable. This is called the “hasty sling” method.

Another type of shooting modification that can be used with the two-point sling is the “loop sling.”

This is achieved by disconnecting the rear portion of the sling and pulling a loop through the adjustment slide. Then, slide your arm through the loop and pull tightly:

This will help stabilize your long gun and provide you with the opportunity to shoot more accurately. This tactic is referred to as the “USGI sling.”

Cons

The downside of the two-point sling is that it can be difficult to retrieve your gun in a situation where time is of the essence.

It’s also a little harder to transition from side to side unless you leave some extra length to free up your neck area.

Three Point Slings

The three-point sling also connects to the front and back of the firearm like its two-point counterpart. However, the three-point sling differs in that it has an additional loop that goes around your torso.

When it comes to the three-point sling, I find that people either love it or hate it.

Pros

Overall, I think it’s a good sling that keeps your gun within reach, just like its single-point counterpart.

In addition, the three-point sling has more control than the single-point sling when you’re moving hands-free. That means you don’t have to worry about having your gun bang up your shin or groin area as you move.

The biggest benefit of the three-point sling is that you can easily transition from a rifle to a sidearm without having to fumble between guns.

Cons

However, the three-point sling doesn’t come without its own set of cons. Some shooters complain that three-point slings tend to get caught on bolt release mechanisms and block ejection ports of rifles.

Also, this…

In case you’re wondering…yes that rifle was loaded and no this was not a drill/test/skit. This is, in all its glory, the three-point sling in the field.

The Ching sling is a special shooting sling that incorporates principles of the “hasty sling” and two-point slings. It requires three connection points and can be used for carrying and aiming.

The Cuff sling is a shooting sling designed to help marksmen get an accurate shot without the use of a bipod.

Conclusion

For almost all users…you’re probably good to go with a two point sling.

Remember, a good gun sling can work wonders by increasing your accuracy or helping quickly switch between your long gun and sidearm. Check out more of our essential gear and guns such as Best Weapon Lights or Best Scopes/Optics.

Benjamin Trail NP .22 Review

0

If you hate the idea of being caught in the rain with a wood stock air gun, you’re going to love the Benjamin Trail NP .22.

This rifle is a nice combination of remarkable technology with a durable stock that’s impervious to all kinds of bad weather.

It also has the potential to become your favorite pellet gun for the next few years.

Gun Type

The Benjamin Trail NP is powered by Nitro Piston technology.

A nitro piston gun (or gas piston) works the same as the spring gun but it has a nitrogen-filled cylinder instead of a metal spring.

The air in the cylinder is already compressed and you apply more pressure to it when you cock the gun.

The pressurized air is kept under tension until you pull the trigger.

When you fire, the pellet is pushed downrange the barrel due to propellant force from compressed air.

A nitro piston rifle is lighter and lasts longer than a spring gun. Besides, it produces less recoil and is easier to cock.

Furthermore, it can be left cocked for days because there is no spring fatigue.

(For more on How nitro piston technology can make your gun sport more exciting, see this post)

The caliber (the internal diameter of the bore, measured in inches) is .22 (5.5 millimeters.).

.22 is the king of hunting and is the go-to caliber for hunters and pest eliminators.

(For more on how to choose the right air gun caliber for your game, see this post.)

Aside from this, this gun is a single-shot, break-barrel gun so you can only shoot once at a time.

After the first shot, you have to break the barrel to manually reload the pellet.

Single-shot guns make you a disciplined shooter:

you have to make your first shot count since you have only 1 chance to hit the animal target

Or it will run away laughing at your face when you are still busy with the reloading action.

The barrel is rifled with helical grooves inside the bore to make the pellet spin.

Spin stabilizes the bullet, improves accuracy, and enhances the shooting range.

Furthermore, the barrel is shrouded i.e. it has a jacket enclosing the barrel

And containing the violent release of compressed air from the muzzle.

It lets the pellet escape but forces the air to use up as much of its energy before it leaves the shroud, thus reducing the noise.

(For more on things you should know about air rifle barrels before buying, see this post.)

Stock

The stock is made of hardwood so it brings an intimate, authentic feel to your hand and withstands impact, shock, and abrasion.

It can be refinished easily at any time so it has a very long life span.

For more on the in-depth comparison between synthetic and wood stock, see this post.

This gun has a thumbhole in the stock

So it provides a more relaxed grip on your wrist by resting the stock on your wrist, as opposed to holding up the stock with your hand.

The thumbhole stock is best for hunters and shooters who spend lots of time in shooting positions, such as bench rest shooting.

This stock has twin raised cheekpieces on both the left and right sides of the gun.

Raised cheekpieces give you firm control in the shooting.

Furthermore, it has a textured grip and forearm to add friction to your hands when shooting, prevent slippage from the shooter’s sweat, and increase stability when aiming.

The sling swivel stud is already mounted so you can put the sling on it anytime you need to carry the gun to the hunting field

Ammo

This gun uses .22 pellets as its only source of ammunition.

While .177 is lighter and sometimes doesn’t deliver enough knockdown power to kill humanely,

the .22 pellet is heavier, more stable in its trajectory, and delivers enough energy to finish the job in one clean shot.

Thus, the .22 caliber is your best bet for small games or for eliminating pests in the garden.

(For more on the differences between .177 & .22 and which jobs they do best, see this post.)

Cocking and Loading

Cocking the gun:

First, put the gun ON SAFE, point the gun in a safe direction, hold the gun near your body and firmly tap the muzzle end to open the breach.

Next, let the gun rest on your upper thigh and grasp the muzzle tip.

Continue to pull the barrel down to its limitation to perform cocking action .

Loading the pellet:

With the breech opened after cocking, put the pellet (with the pellet’s nose lying forward) into the breech.

The pull the barrel up to its original position until it locks and you are ready to fire.

Velocity, Accuracy and Power

The Benjamin Trail NP shoots up to 950 FPS (feet per second) with alloy pellets and up to 800 FPS with lead pellets.

This is a high-end velocity compared to other .22 air guns on the market and it allows you to hunt or drop pests at long range.

For this air rifle, various shooting tests have been conducted by different shooters with positive results.

At 10 yards, Benjamin Trail NP delivers:

1” group with Crosman domed pellet 14.3 grains ultra magnum

And 3/4” with Crosman Destroyer 14.3 grains.

At 20 yards, it provides:

  • 3/4” with H&N hollow point 12.65 grains,
  • less than 1” with Crosman pointed hunting pellet,
  • less than 1 “ with Beeman FTS 14.72 grains,
  • less than 1” with H&N field target trophy 14.66 grains,
  • less than 1” with Beeman Crow Magnum 18.21 grains.

Also, the common shooting groups are:

  • 1/2” at 30 yards,
  • 1” at 25 yards,
  • 1/2” at 30 yards,
  • 1/4” at 50 yards,
  • less than 2” at 35 yards,
  • 1/4” at 30 yards,
  • 1” at 10 yards,
  • 1” at 30 yards,
  • 3/4” at 20 yards,
  • 1” at 50 feet,
  • 1/4” at 30 yards,
  • 1/4” at 20 yard,
  • 1” at 20 yards,
  • 1/2″ at 50 yards,
  • 1/4” at 25 yards,
  • 1/4” at 30 yards,
  • dime size at 30 feet,
  • 3/8″ at 25 yard and
  • 1/2” at 40 yards.

Some people can even manage to:

  • get zero at 50 yards,
  • hit ceramic doll and soda can at 100 yards,
  • zero at 30 yards,
  • dime size at 40 yards
  • and less than 1 “ at 75 yards.

As you can see, this gun is an awesome tack driver with a shooting range of up to 100 yards.

But does the Benjamin Trail NP have enough knockdown power for pest control and small game hunting?

Well, shooters report that they’ve dropped starlings at 90 yards, hit a squirrel at 75 yards, taken out a raccoon at 32 yards.

This rifle is the powerhouse you can trust to go hunting with or do pest control in the backyard.

(For more on the best air rifle for rabbits, see this post)

Sight

This gun doesn’t have an open sight: No front sight, no rear sight.

But you don’t need an iron sight since Crosman has installed an awesome 3-9×40 AO scope on it with a mil-dot reticle

So you can take comfort in knowing that your accuracy is greatly enhanced

(For more on how many types of air gun sights are out there and which one is suitable for you, see this post.)

Noise

With the Nitro piston Technology, Benjamin Trail NP produces minimum audible output.

It has hundreds of customer reviews without a single complaint about noise so you can shoot without disturbing your neighbors.

Shooting range and intended use

The effective shooting range for Benjamin Trail NP is up to 50 yards.

You can use this gun for target shooting, plinking, pest control, and small game hunting.

For more on the best air rifle for squirrels, see this post

Accessories

The accessories include the Weaver-style rings and unmounted 3-9×40 AO Centerpoint Scope.

Maintenance

The Benjamin Trail NP requires very little maintenance:

Just apply a few drops of Crosman RMCOIL every few hundred shots into the compression chamber,

Use a cloth to clean the external metal parts and you are fine.

Warranty

As of this date, the Benjamin Trail NP has a one-year limited warranty from the date of purchase

Customer Reviews

There are plenty of reviews on this nitro piston pellet gun.

Positive reviews show that people love it for its high-tech features, high velocity, awesome power, extreme accuracy, and sophisticated design .

On the other hand, there are some negative reviews — people complain about the trigger.

They say it takes too long to pull and makes them feel uncomfortable.

This problem can be solved in 2 ways: The first is to take some time to get used to it and practice proper shooting techniques.

The second is to buy an aftermarket trigger to replace with this one.

Pros

  • Awesome accuracy
  • Superb knockdown power
  • Durable stock with lots of amazing features
  • Great scope
  • Fantastic design
  • Advanced technology
  • Quiet and recoilless
  • Easy to cock and simple to use

Cons

  • Made in China
  • Trigger takes too long to pull (takes some time to get used to or can be replaced with an aftermarket trigger)

Price

The Benjamin Trail NP is only about $200.

It’s very cheap if you consider lots of great features and technology this gun offers.

I’m sure you can get a high-end rifle to do a better job but it will cost anywhere from $500 to $2000.

Conclusion

The Benjamin Trail NP .22 has all you need for a successful hunting day.

It’s quiet, powerful, accurate, recoil-less, and functions perfectly under any kind of weather.

Eating Trout Raw: Guidelines for Freshwater Sushi Enthusiasts

0

If you’re an avid trout fisherman, you’ve probably wondered if you can eat trout raw. Saltwater fishermen talk all the time about catching Spanish mackerel or tuna and eating right on the boat. But saltwater fish and freshwater fish live in very different environments. So can you eat trout raw?

The quick answer is that yes, you can eat trout raw if you’re desperate – but otherwise, you should not. It’s not recommended and could be bad for your health. Freshwater fish (including trout) have a higher chance of carrying parasites that could harm you.

On the other hand, saltwater fish are less likely to have harmful parasites in them – and are safer to eat raw. But even then you can still get very ill from eating any type of raw fish.

But what are your other options then? What are the best ways to prepare trout if you’re camping and if you do have to eat trout raw (like if you’re trying to survive without a fire), how would you go about doing it as safely possible?

We’ll answer all these questions and more in this article. Let’s get to it!

Why Can’t You Eat Trout Raw?

raw rainbow trout fillets

Before we get into what you should do if you absolutely have to eat trout raw as well as ways to prepare trout you’ve just caught, let’s go into a bit more detail as to why you cannot eat trout raw.

Author Note: With any raw fish, you run the risk of picking up any parasites that might be living in its meat. These parasites could be tapeworms, lung fluke, or other digestive bugs that will cause you serious harm if transferred to your digestive system.

As we mentioned earlier, saltwater fish don’t have nearly as many parasites that survive in human bodies and are there for less risky to ingest raw. That being said, health experts recommend you freeze all raw fish (saltwater included) at -4 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 7 days to kill any parasites that might be living in them.

This is the standard that sushi restaurants live by and applies to all raw fish.

Can Trout Be Eaten as Sashimi?

Sashimi is small pieces of raw fish – so aligning with our previous answer, you should not eat trout as sashimi. It’s still raw and can harm you for all the same reasons you shouldn’t eat trout raw.

Just because it has a fancy name does not make it any different from eating plain raw trout!

What to Do If You Have to Eat Trout Raw

Now that you know you should not be eating trout raw unless you need to to survive, let’s go over the things you try and do before eating it. It’s worth noting that we are NOT medical experts so if you do take our advice we are not liable for your health.

The first thing you should do is make absolutely sure you have no way to start a fire to cook the trout. Can you use friction to start a fire with two sticks?

Do you have a lighter somewhere on you or someone in your party that you may have forgotten about? Be absolutely sure you can not start a fire before proceeding.

After you’ve checked that, you should focus on cleaning the fish properly and quickly. You’ll want to eat the trout as quickly as possible after you catch it to ensure it doesn’t go bad.

The longer you wait after it is dead the more time bacteria have to grow on it and cause you harm.

How to Clean a Trout

Fresh trout

Once you’ve caught a trout (maybe with a bobber setup or using a stick to spearfish) that you want to eat, you should immediately cut its gills to let it bleed out.

This will preserve the flavor of the meat and remove some of the stronger flavors in the blood.

Author Note: After cutting the gills you should clean it as soon as possible. Here’s how to clean a trout. The process is similar for all species of trout, whether it’s a rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, or lake trout.

Instructions

  1. The first step in cleaning the trout is to make sure you have a sharp knife. Considering you’re in survival mode, even a pocket knife will work fine. If you don’t have a knife. We recommend finding a sharp rock and trying to follow these steps.
  2. Begin by cutting down the trout’s belly starting from the anal fins up to the pelvic fins and the beginning of the collar. We like resting the fish on a big rock to get leverage.
  3. Next, reach up inside the trout and pull out the innards. You may need to use both hands to pull them loose if they are stuck to the rib cage.
  4. Wash away the blood and extra gut from your rock then cut through the collar and remove the head.
  5. Next, it’s time to cut out your fillets. Make a cut across the end of the tail on both sides. Then connect the cut your already made on the belly to the end of the tail.
  6. Make a cut from the top of the backbone starting at the collar and going all the way down to the tail. Move your blade all the way down the spine while cutting through the skeletal bones.
  7. You can then use your knife to cut away the fillet from the collar of the trout.
  8. The last step is to remove as many of the pin bones as you can with your fingernails. This step can be time-consuming but will give you bone-free fish.
  9. The last step is to inspect the meat for any visible parasites or worms. They should be relatively obvious. If you see something weird, don’t eat that part of the fish or try and catch another one.

How to Cook Trout Properly

Luckily you will find yourself in this situation instead of the above. You’ve caught a trout while camping and you are ready to prepare it over a fire! This is a much safer option than eating trout raw. Let’s go over how to cook trout properly while camping.

Instructions

  1. First, you should follow the above steps we laid out for cleaning the trout properly. This will ensure you avoid eating bones (which can be dangerous) and will make the trout taste better. Bleed the fish first then remove the guts. If you brought any seasoning with you (salt, pepper, etc.) this is when you should add it.
  2. After cleaning the raw trout, find a long thin stick with a tip you can sharpen with your knife. This is going to be the skewer that you will use to hold the trout fillets over your campfire.
  3. Slide each filet onto the stick. If you don’t have enough room on your stick, you should find another stick and sharpen it so you have two skewers. Make sure the skewer holds the filet flat and maximizes its surface area. This will help the fish cook quickly and evenly.
  4. Once you build your fire, wait until the big flames have died down. This is the most common mistake when cooking trout while camping – you don’t want to cook it over open flames! You can, but it will impart a bad tasting charcoal flavor from the smoke.
  5. Once the big flames have died out, push the logs apart so the coals are exposed. This is where you are going to cook your trout.
  6. Hold the trout filets over the coals to cook them. You should start smelling cooked fish. Pay attention to the surface of the meat as well – you don’t want it turning black or burning.
  7. The best way to tell if the trout is done is to feel it. If it is firm like the muscle of your thumb and index finger, it’s done.

What Kind of Trout Tastes Best?

Fresh raw trout

Author Note: We also get this question all the time, and the answer is that it depends on your personal preference! Smaller species of trout like rainbow trout and brook trout tend to have firmer meat – like bass or pike. They also tend to taste like perch or other small predatory fish.

Larger species like lake trout tend to be softer and oilier. This is because they don’t have to work as hard to find food and have a higher fat percentage in their meat. If it was up to us, we would eat rainbow trout and steelhead the most.

We think they have the best texter and a mild flavor that tastes great with very little seasoning. Steelhead are a unique type of trout in that they can be caught year-round – even in the winter.

But if you’re in survival mode and purely eating the trout because you need sustenance, you probably won’t care what kind it is or what it tastes like. Hopefully, you don’t find yourself in that situation!

Parting Thoughts

We’ve been camping many times, and inevitably someone asks can you eat trout raw? It might be tempting at first – how much more fresh could the fish get? But as you now know eating trout raw can be dangerous to your health and should be avoided at all costs.

If you do have to eat trout raw, you should make sure to clean it properly first. Hopefully, you’ll have the resources to start a fire and avoid eating it raw.

Gamo Bone Collector Bull Whisper IGT Review

0

Remember the movie “The Bone Collector”?

When I heard that there is a gun named Bone Collector,

I thought that Angelina Jolie had switched her hobby from child-raising and charity to shooting sport.

In fact, the Bone Collector is designed in collaboration with Micheal Waddel and Travis “T Bone” Turner of the Bone Collector TV series.

The series portrays the culture of hunters and the brotherhood of sportsmen.

Therefore, it is no surprise that the gun is built on a forest theme:

A special hunter green, composite stock with dark grey rubber grip insert.

And the cool Bone Collector logo is prominently shown on the synthetic, high-grade stock.

Gamo really knows how to catch our attention!

(For more on the best air rifle brands, see this post)

Gamo Bone Collector – Gun Type

This is a gas-piston air rifle.

It gets power from Inert Gas Technology (IGT) which sets it apart from an ordinary spring gun.

IGT guns have no spring torque and no spring fatigue even if you leave them cocked for hours.

Besides, you can cock the gun and wait to take your next shot without worrying about metal springs taking a set or weakening.

Gas piston rifle is robust and does not lose anything in either area,

Plus the gas piston is known to shoot much smoother and delivers less twang and vibration compared to springers.

(For more on the 5 types of air rifles you need to know before buying, see this post.)

This gun is a break-barrel, single-shot gun with a rifled barrel.

(For more on things you should know about air rifle barrels before buying, see this post.)

Besides, the barrel is designed in a fluted polymer jacket style.

Fluting means cutting out material from the cylindrical surface, hence it is lighter and dissipates heat quicker

And you can enjoy long hours shooting without worrying about the overheated barrels.

Moreover, Gamo has installed a Bull Whisper noise dampener in this gun to cut the audible sound to the great extent.

It gives you lots of benefits at hand:

First, your hunting dog is less likely affected by noise.

Second, it reduces recoil and muzzle blast.

Third, it protects the shooter’s hearing ability.

And finally, it keeps your sensitive neighbor happy while plinking in the backyard and will not disturb your shooting fellows in the range.

Gamo Bone Collector comes in 2 calibers:

.177 and .22 so you can choose between one of these 2 calibers that you like most.

(For more on how to choose the right air gun caliber for your game, see this post.)

Stock

The stock is all-weather synthetic green stock.

The synthetic stock is extremely suitable for shooters who live in high-humidity places and hunters who go on long hunting trips.

(For more on the in-depth comparison between synthetic and wood stock, see this post.)

This stock has dual raised cheekpieces on the left and right sides so it’s extremely useful for left-handed shooters.

Besides, it has checkering on the grip and forearm to add friction to your hand when shooting, prevent slippage from the shooter’s sweat, and enhance accuracy.

Furthermore, the stock has a pistol grip:

It orients the hand in a forward, vertical way similar to the position one would take with a conventional pistol

So it gives you a natural and comfortable hold of the gun.

The Bone Collector’s stock features SWA – Shock Wave Absorber.

Let’s talk about it for a moment.

There is an entire industry centered around making after-market recoil pads.

Their intents are to reduce felt recoil because constant recoil pounding to your shoulders is painful and will stop you from shooting as much as you want.

While the gas piston is going to seriously reduce the vibration, the SWA buttplate will stop you from feeling most of the recoil and from the remaining movement of the gun.

In fact, it provides up to 74% more recoil absorption than a standard buttpad.

Moreover, it’s an adjustable buttpad with three removable absorption cells so you can customize it according to your own need.

Now you can shoot comfortably and enjoy long-hour shooting without pain on your shoulders.

More on the Gamo Bone Collector IGT here:

Ammo

With 2 types of calibers available, Gamo Bone Collector Bull Whisper has 2 corresponding types of pellets:

.177 caliber uses .177 pellet and .22 caliber use .22 pellet .

As you may know, a .177 pellet is cheap: you can buy a bunch of .177 pellets for half the money for the same amount of .22 pellets.

Besides, .177 is lighter and gives you higher velocity so it’s great for plinking and target shooting.

On the other hand, .22 pellets are heavier, more stable on their trajectory, and have more than enough muzzle energy to get the job done.

(For more on the differences between .177 & .22 and which jobs they do best, see this post.)

Sight

The Gamo Bone Collector Bull Whisper doesn’t come with traditional open sight.

No front sight, no rear sight.

Instead of an iron sight, Gamo put the 4×32 scope in it for more precision in the shooting.

Having this handy scope gives you dead-on accuracy in both short-range and long-range shooting.

(For more on how many types of air gun sights are out there and which one is suitable for you, see this post.)

Trigger

In the past, Gamo customers have swapped out their triggers for aftermarket ones.

There’s no need to do that anymore.

The Smooth Action Trigger (SAT), is light years better than the previous version.

It’s smooth and predictable.

What will that do for you?

It’ll improve your grouping because a heavy, unpredictable trigger is responsible for delivering large groups.

You’ll be amazed at how good a shot you are when you shoot the Bone Collector with the brand-new SAT trigger.

Velocity, accuracy and power

Gamo Bone Collector produces velocity up to 1300 FPS with .177 pellets and 975 FPS with .22 pellets.

These are exceptionally high velocities compared to other air guns on the market

And it puts this rifle belonging to the magnum class in the air gun world.

In addition, since the speed of sound is 1100 FPS (varying with altitude and temperature),

You may hear the loud crack if you buy a .177 caliber because the lightweight pellet breaks the sound barriers.

If you buy a .22 one then this is not an issue at all.

Chrony tests with both types of pellets give us the following results:

In .22:

Pellet (.22)FPSFPE
Crosman Premiere 14.3 gr74517.63
18.2 gr pellet64016.56
PBA 9.7 gr97520.48

In .177:

Pellet (.177)FPSFPE
Beeman laser 7.1 grains92613.52
PBA Gamo Raptor 5.4 gr130020.27
Red Flame 7.9 gr100017.55

As you can see, the velocities match the advertised numbers and even surpass them!

This is a phenomenon you don’t usually see because the advertising velocity is often the highest speed an air gun can achieve with its already-made capacity.

For this IGT pellet rifle, various shooting tests have been conducted by different shooters with positive results.

The common shooting groups are:

  • 1/4″ at 20 yards,
  • 1 1/2″ at 30 yards,
  • dime size at 20 yards,
  • dime size at 30 feet,
  • 1/4″ at 20 yards,
  • 1” at 30 yards,
  • 1/2″ at 10 yards,

  • nickel size at 50 feet with H&N Field Trophy and Baracuda Match pellet,
  • 1.5” at 50 feet with Crow Magnum,
  • 1/4″ at 10 yards,
  • 1/2″ at 50 yards using Crosman Ultra Magnum 10.5 gr,
  • 0.17” at 30 yards with Crosman Premiere 10.5 gr,
  • 1” at 60 yards,
  • 1” at 20 yards using domed lead ammo,
  • ¼” at 20 yards,
  • 1” at 10 yards,
  • 1” at 20 yards,
  • dime size at 20 yards with Crosman 14.3 gr,
  • 1.75” at 25 yards,
  • 1/2″ at 25 yards,
  • 1/4″ at 15 yards,
  • 1” at 30 yards,
  • 3/4″ to 1” at 15 to 20 yards with JSB 14.35 gr,
  • dime size at 50 feet,
  • and bull eyes at 25 yards.

(For more on everything you need to know about air rifle accuracy, see this post)

Furthermore, this Bull Whisper can:

goes through 1/4″ plywood at 50 yards,

pierce two layers of wood siding at 75 feet with 11 to 14 gr pellets,

destroy soda can at 50 yards,

penetrate 3/8” wafer board with Gamo PBA Platinum 5.2 gr,

drop jays at 50 yards and kill squirrels, raccoons woodchucks, and turkeys in 1 shot at 60 yards.

As you can see from those impressive numbers above, this rifle is extremely accurate

And generates more than enough knock-down power for small games at a shooting range of up to 50 yards.

(For more on the best air rifle for squirrels, see this post)

Customer review

There are lots of mixed customer reviews about this gun.

In positive reviews, we see that people love its outstanding features, awesome technology, great fit and finish, quality stock, incredible accuracy, and power.

In negative reviews, people mostly complain about 2 things.

The first is the low-quality scope: you can solve this issue simply by attaching another scope of your choice to it.

The second is the loud noise, and much louder than what they expect from a “whisper” gun.

There are effective solutions for those problems:

Make sure you clean the barrel several times to get rid of diesel in the bore,

And use heavier pellets instead of lightweight ones to make the gun go subsonic and doesn’t break the sound barrier.

Pros and Cons

ProsCons
  • Astonishing IGT and ND52 technology
  • Sensational forest-theme design
  • Incredible composite stock with rubber grip insert
  • Excellent trigger
  • Fantastic velocity
  • Jaw-dropping power
  • Decent scope
  • Not quiet as "whisper" with lightweight pellet
  • Dirty barrel out of the box

Price

The price for Gamo Bone Collector is about 200$.

It’s a bargain for a unique rifle that integrates a bunch of proven technology and produces superb power and dead-on accuracy.

Besides, there is little difference between the prices of the 2 calibers so you can choose the one that you like most.

Also, when you buy from PyramydAir, you save a whopping 90$ more than buying from Gamo’s site.

Conclusion

The Bone Collector has made quite a buzz in the air gun world.

Endorsed by iconic TV personalities, this gun paved its own way into the best-selling air rifle list on many retailer sites such as Amazon, Walmart, Pyramyd Air, etc.

Even if you are not a “Bone Collector” like Travis Turner, you will love this gun for its aesthetically pleasing look and extraordinary quality.

Benjamin Marauder Wood Stock (Gen 1) Review – The Best Name In The Air Rifle Game

0

Benjamin Marauder is a brand that mixes superiority with affordability when it comes to air rifles.

Since 2009, Benjamin Marauder has been gifting shooting enthusiasts

With a wide range of rifles that combine accuracy, accessibility, quietness and class.

Whether you’re a hobbyist, a serious shooter or a pest controller, you can rely on this air rifle.

The Marauder is one of the best PCP air rifles you can buy right now!

enjamin marauder wood stock generation 1

The Benjamin Marauder’s affordable price has made it a popular choice with multitudes of shooter.

If you’re thinking about buying an air rifle for hunting or for pest control, we’re here to make your task easier.

Benjamin Marauder – Guntype

Benjamin Marauder is a PCP pellet gun.

PCP (Pre-charged pneumatic) air rifles use highly-pressurized air in the chamber to discharge the pellet.

The pressurized air is compressed up to 2000-3000 psi by using scuba tanks or hand pumps.

When the air reaches the desired pressure, the gun is ready to use.

(For more on the 5 types of air rifles you need to know before buying, see this post.)

benjamin marauder wood stock diagram

The Benjamin Marauder air rifle’s reservoir is filled via hand pump, tank, compressor, or other accessories that we are going to discuss in detail later.

The air pressure inside the reservoir increases due to the blockage that the valve creates.

When you pull the trigger, a little gap is created through which the pressurized air escapes, launching the projectile.

Benjamin Marauder is one of the best PCP air rifles you can buy right now

You must understand that the air pressure and the performance are not always proportionate.

With too much air pressure your rifle will stop working at all

This is why we will discuss in detail the best air pressure range for this model along with the Benjamin Marauder .25 cal.

benjamin marauder wood stock

The basic feature that I would like you to understand is that this is a multi-shot gun — once you pull the trigger you can fire up to ten shots.

This particular model has auto-indexing which looks after the accuracy for the succession of shots.

Check Price on Pyramyd Air

The Benjamin Marauder wood stock rifle comes with a barrel that is fully shrouded,

And as a result, they are really quiet, making it absolutely suitable for pest control or safeguarding the lawn.

(For more on things you should know about air rifle barrels before buying, see this post.)

As with most PCP guns, the marauder is perfectly suited for pest control.

However, with higher caliber ammunition and the right accessories, you can use it for medium to big games like boar, deer, etc.

(For more on the best air rifle for deer hunting, see this post)

benjamin marauder gun barrel

The barrel comes choked for better accuracy and range as it shapes the shot spread initially.

This means that you can hit your target repeatedly, and the points of impact are more condensed than that of an unchoked barrel.

This dramatically increases the chance of killing your game.

The caliber ranges from .177 to .22 and .25 (with Crosman barrel or Lothar Walther Match Barrel)

Accuracy, velocity, and air pressure vary with caliber.

(For more on how to choose the right air gun caliber for your game, see this post.)

a marauder is an expert in pest control. furthermore, with higher caliber and proper accessories, you can use it for medium and big games like boars, deers, etc.

A PCP gun has numerous advantages over spring-piston guns, accuracy chief among them.

Secondly, the Benjamin Marauder doesn’t need to be cocked again and again, as you can charge it once for multiple shots.

Stock

There are two types of stock available: wood and synthetic.

Let’s deal with the wooden one here.

The black powder finish is worth the comment.

The stock also comes in a black synthetic version.

The metal parts have bluing, which is intended to protect them from rust.

It may lack the beautiful mirror finished look of an air rifle, but this stock gives it a very realistic appearance.

Let’s be honest, a Marauder is not just made to be looked at.

It is for SHOOTING with serious power!

benjamin marauder wood stock

The wooden stock gives you an authentic look but it could be harder to use in extreme weather conditions,

While the synthetic stock would do just fine and remains lighter in weight.

The synthetic one may lack the authentic touch but it is more easily carried.

(For more on the in-depth comparison between synthetic and wood stock, see this post.)

Coming to the most important and impressive feature, this stock is ambidextrous.

Both right and left-handed gunners can use it with ease. For left-handed shooters, the bolt has to be reversed.

The stock has padding for better resting.

The Marauder stock is heavy but the weight just feels better and more realistic while shooting, although some might find the weight too much.

Fear not, we have a solution for that too: Just attach a sling to alleviate some of the burdens.

Sight

Sighting is one of the most important features of any gun.

Being able to control the sights effectively makes all the difference for the performance.

benjamin marauder sight

The Benjamin Marauder wood stock has an 11mm dovetail rail which we can see across the receiver top.

This model does not offer you an iron open sight

So you are free to choose your favorite optic for your mission depending on factors like the scope, price, range, etc.

It would be wise to have an adapter handy or an extra set of airgun rings available.

We can see a Picatinny rail on the vision and target version.

You can choose the best one suitable for you from the options available in the market like a Hawke sidewinder 30 SF Mil-Dot Reticle scope.

Besides, a Center point-4 16*40 AO scope is included in the Marauder premium package.

(For more on how many types of air gun sights are out there and which one is suitable for you, see this post.)

Velocity, accuracy and power

The key point for the most effective velocity or accuracy and the optimum use of power is tuning.

You can use the factory setting if you are not an expert yet.

I would personally advise you to go with the preset tuning,

But there is huge scope for improved performance with the Marauder models if they are tuned with the right technical knowledge.

benjamin marauder wood stock specification

It would not be right if I didn’t mention that there’s a lot of in-built tuning potential with this gun.

Easy adjustments can be made for valve output or hammer spring tension.

benjamin marauder wood stock accuracy

A word to the wise though: do not change the factory settings without complete understanding.

You will end up in a lot of trouble regarding muzzle velocity or high air pressure.

benjamin marauder pellets

Here I will make you a table for a better understanding of the velocity, energy, and accuracy.

The gun has been tested for different pellets, and the results range from 23.38ft/lbs to 33.43ft/lbs in case of average muzzle energy.

The velocity of the muzzle also varied from 1041.83 FPS to 843.85 FPS.

Nothing can match the Marauder for accuracy in this price range.

That is one trait I can vouch for any day.

The rifle is accurate over both long and short distances.

The range varies from caliber to caliber.

.177 is fit for paper targets whereas .22 is all set to kill some rabbits or squirrels.

From up to 30 yards of distance .22 does its magic smoothly.

(For more on the differences between .177 & .22 and which jobs they do best, see this post.)

In the case of .25, you can try from 50 to 100 yards distance.

.25 is suitable for hunting predators and sometimes, if properly set, it can be used for animals as large as coyotes.

Want example? Ian Harford and Steve Wild from Team Wild TV used Benjamin Marauder wood stock for hog hunting here:

Trigger

We mentioned the trigger earlier, but here, I am going to help you understand how that helps you in the shooting.

This is a two-stage trigger resulting in a very crisp function and positive let-off.

It makes all the difference, and you will understand how pleasant it is once you start shooting.

The two-stage trigger offers you two basic advantages over single pull conventional triggers.

The first one is safety.

benjamin marauder wood stock generation 1 trigger

Safety is very important in the case of air guns or rifles and in this model, the safety is attached just in front of the trigger with direct contact.

The trigger pull weight is around 3lbs, which is pretty reasonable.

Two-stage triggers are much safer because of their requirement of heavier trigger pull.

There is less of a chance of an accidental shot.

The second benefit of such a trigger is the accuracy.

You take the first pull, then if not targeted properly, you can pause and correct it with minimal effort and then take the second pull.

It is way easier and thus results in higher accuracy.

Now, if you are not happy with the manufacturer’s adjustments on the trigger, you can always change it.

Crossman has a very detailed manual that contains all the necessary information about changing any kind of setting.

You can change the first and second stage settings along with the pull weight and the position of the trigger blade.

However, my advice to you is to do it very slowly, just one or two steps at a time,

And then make use of the changes to understand your actions on the trigger and its reaction on the whole system.

It is of grave importance to keep checking the safety of the trigger — accidental discharges are the last thing you want while enjoying a fun shoot.

Cocking and loading

Let us start with the bolt.

The opening act has a cock and because of that, the opening action is justifiably light.

You can load the pellets easily while following the three classic steps.

Pull back the bolt handle first, then snap the magazine in and conclude with pushing forward the bolt.

For an easier loading process, the aluminum breech is elevated.

benjamin marauder wood stock b sign

You can cock the rifle and leave it aside until you are ready to shoot.

This does not affect the shooting at all.

The bolt is reversible, and it may take some time for adjustment but it’s not an issue to worry about.

About the magazine, you should be careful while filling it with pellets because it’s quite small.

You may end up losing more pellets while loading than actually shooting.

Loudness

If you see one thing in any Benjamin Marauder review more than most, it would be the noiselessness.

It’s famous for this feature, thanks to its fully shrouded barrel.

The internal shroud is called the De-pinger because it changes the sharp ping of the gun into a dull thud.

People claim that it’s so quiet that they’ve killed squirrels without disturbing any other nearby animals.

Shooting Ability

The Benjamin Marauder comes with a 10 shot clip which is very convenient to load.

Though single shot trays are also available, I could not think of any valid reason or appropriate situation where you might need one.

The Marauder offers you a very useful feature in that it shows how many pellets are remaining in the clip.

The absence of double feed protection as seen on most firearms should also be noted carefully as it plays a great role in jamming the rifle.

There could be a number of consequences if you load them without care.

First of all, there is nothing to alarm you about the fault.

Now that it is done, it could be a double shot that would surprise you leading to accidents or unintended events.

Another thing that can also happen is that your system could be jammed, and it would take a lot to get it back to normal again.

The ambidextrous feature makes it not only user-friendly but also suitable for a wide range of accessories.

The Marauder has a wide fan base, and they know how to respect it while making shooting easier for everyone.

You can adjust the stock comb height for setting up cheek weld,

Which is a big plus considering it can be customized according to your physical needs, and the features of your scopes or mounts.

We can always use a good cheek weld, which instantly results in higher accuracy.

You can also use a rifle rest or stand if you are planning a long session.

Maintenance

The Marauder is not a high-maintenance gun.

Clean the pellets after using a few hundred with any air rifle lube.

This will prevent lead building up in the barrels, and your shooting experience will not fall below standard.

Have micro fibers handy to clean the overall outer parts.

It removes the smudges and any kind of fingerprints making the air rifle new and shiny.

Accessories

First and foremost, you need a hand pump or tank to fill the tank.

Being a PCP rifle, it works on the pneumatic principle, which uses compressed air for shooting.

This model needs 2000-3000 psi pressure to work.

The actual amount may vary by a small amount, and you will get the closest value for your rifle following the instructions on the owner’s manual.

Keep the pressure accurate for effective shots.

Once the pressure gets low, you cannot operate the rifle.

Then, the velocity and accuracy fall and it won’t be triggered.

benjamin marauder needs 2000-3000 psi to work

215cc (size of the air reservoir) is a considerable amount of air, and it could get tiresome to use a hand pump though many shooters prefer to use it.

In that case, a compressor or scuba tank, or carbon-fiber bottle makes the process easier and faster.

There are numerous compressors available in the market.

In fact, the marauder also can be bought with a tank,

But if you are looking for something better, you can go for:

If you are interested in hand pumps, you can go with Air Venture g6 or g7 hand pump or Hill MK4 hand pump.

Another must need accessory is a sight for this air rifle which I have already mentioned in the section dedicated to it.

Another must-have accessory is a sight for this air rifle, which I mentioned above.

Pros and Cons

ProsCons
  • Quietness is the key. You have to try very hard to listen to a marauder's sound
  • Accuracy is unbeatable
  • Variable velocity and muzzle energy.
  • Easy for multiple shots.
  • Ambidextrous stock with reversible bolt.
  • High-quality robust material.
  • Unbeatable affordability.
  • Adjustable in nature.
  • Standardized parts for finding accessories easily or replacing part.
  • Low and hassle-free maintenance.
  • Rich bluing coat on metal parts as protection from rust.
  • Once the pressure goes down, it will malfunction, and you will end up annoying your target rather than killing it.
  • It is somehow heavy rifle and could be an issue for customers with weaker physic.
  • The stiffness may cause inconvenience.
  • Pumping could be an issue as well if you are using a hand pump. The reservoir takes quite a time to get filled.

Price

The Benjamin Marauder comes at an unbeatable price.

PCP Air guns cost from as little as 300 dollars to several thousand dollars,

And this model can be bought for around 450-550 dollars, depending upon the barrel and accessories.

Affordability meets quality with this model.

There are better air rifles in the market, but when we are talking about this price range, finding something better would be very difficult.

Anything better than this will cost you 3 to 4 times its price.

Durability

Known for its performance and durability, I do not need to mention these features specifically.

It will go for years unless you neglect it.

It requires very little hassle, as I mentioned above.

With a little care, your marauder will keep you company for years.

Marauder is the model in which affordability meets the standards. Anything better than this will cost you 3 to 4 times of its price

Specifications

Here I am charting out the entire specifications once more so you can see it all together.

  1. 10 shots repeater rifle with an auto indexing features.
  2. Air pressure range from 2000-3000 psi.
  3. The muzzle velocity can be adjusted with different pellets and so is the muzzle energy. The accuracy depends on the pellets.
  4. There is an internal shroud present in the gun that makes it very quiet, turning the ping into a thud.
  5. Choked barrel ensures better accuracy and repetitive hit on the target.
  6. The two-stage trigger is made of metal, which is robust and smart looking.
  7. In case of circular magazines, they made the process easier with the raised breech made of aluminum.
  8. Original model comes with dovetail ring of 11 mm.
  9. The stock is made of hardwood. The forearm and grip are checkered and you can adjust the comb.
  10. Reversible bolt is present in this air rifle, which can be switched from left to right making it ambidextrous and suitable for both right and left hand shooters.
  11. In-built manometer to keep track of the pressure inside the reservoir.
  12. The size of the air reservoir is 215cc.
  13. Benjamin Marauder wood stock gen 1 rifle weighs around 8.2 lbs without scope. The heavy weight helps in improving accuracy.
  14. At the end of the reservoir, there is a quick disconnect male foster fitting which is used with a quick disconnect female fitting for filling up the tank from a pump or air tank.
  15. Swivel studs for sling along with one magazine is provided.
  16. The valve has been increased from the previous model which gives more shots. In case of the .177/.22 caliber the number of shots is almost 32 whereas it is 16 in case of the .25 caliber.

Another feature that varies with caliber is the noise. The loudness of the rifle increases with an increase in caliber.

Customer review

Customers are very satisfied with Benjamin Marauder wood stock air rifle gen 1 and delighted after shooting with it.

They emphasize accuracy, durability, quietness, and a smart look.

There have been few complaints about this air rifle and the brand names live up to the expectations.

Critics are also happy with the products, and different air rifle selling sites have detailed customer reviews which are absolutely positive.

At the end of the day, all I can say is that the Benjamin Marauder is the name you trust for accuracy and durability.

It will last for long years and serve you well.

At this price, it is hard to find a better air rifle that has this degree of performance with all these high-end features and quietness.

As is evident above, the Benjamin Armada is very similar to the Benjamin Marauder PCP air rifle.

Perhaps the most striking difference is the tactic-cool stuff the Armada has been upgraded with.

The Benjamin Armada has a fancier stock than the Benjamin Marauder.

In this sense, the Armada is largely seen as a cosmetic upgrade of the Marauder.

The rest of the functions are pretty much the same.

If you’re onto aesthetics, do not hesitate to purchase Benjamin Armada.

The table above compares and contrasts Benjamin Marauder to the three models of Hatsan.

The Hatsan BT65 SB is the longest of the four PCP air rifles.

All the three Hatsan models are heavier than the Benjamin Marauder

The Hatsan AT44S-10 has a notably small size cylinder (180 cc) that can yield only 10 shots per fill.

Benjamin Marauder has a 215 cc cylinder that yields 32 shots per fill.

Benjamin Marauder and Hatsan BT65 use bolt action while Hatsan AT44 and Hatsan AT44S10 use side lever action.

People have different preferences when it comes to choosing between bolt action and side lever action.

The majority prefer side lever actions, because of their smoothness and the ease of cocking the gun.

Bolts can sometimes move out of position when stalking game, however.

In terms of weight, Diana Outlaw is lighter than Benjamin Marauder by about 0.7 lbs.

Diana Outlaw offers you fewer shots per fill (13) than Benjamin Marauder (32).

This is despite the fact that Diana Outlaw has a cylinder with slightly less capacity than that of Benjamin Marauder – 210 vs 215 cc.

For the .177 caliber, Benjamin Marauder exhibits a higher muzzle velocity (1100 fps) than Diana Outlaw (1000 fps).

While Benjamin Marauder operates on a bolt action, Diana Outlaw operates on Side lever action.

The trigger pull for the Gamo Urban (3.5 lbs) is double that of the Benjamin Marauder (1.5 lbs).

This tells you that you can have better control of the trigger when using the Gamo Urban.

Lighter triggers can still work but are not the preference of more experienced shooters.

Another significant difference is the cylinder size of the guns,

Where the Benjamin Marauder comes with a 215 cc cylinder while the Gamo Urban comes with a 105 cc cylinder.

The larger the cylinder the more shots per fill you expect.

The 0.6 lbs difference in weight between the two air rifles may not be that noticeable.

The Umarex Gauntlet is slightly longer than the Benjamin Marauder, by about 4 inches.

For this reason, the Umarex Gauntlet is also heavier than Benjamin Marauder by about 1.2 lbs.

Other than that, the Umarex Gauntlet gives you a clean 70 shots per fill.

This lets you shoot and shoot and shoot before you think of refilling the gun again.

The hardwood stocks give you the confidence and pride of outdoor hunting more than synthetic stock will ever do.

But on the other hand, synthetics can be more durable given the effect of weather on wood.

Again, the Field and Target Version stays true to its name

7 Best EDC Backpacks in 2024

0

Sometimes, you simply can’t fit all of your EDC kit into your pockets. Sure, you’ve probably got enough room for your knife, keys, flashlight, phone, and wallet, but once you start adding on a laptop, first aid kit, and rain jacket, having an EDC backpack can really help you maximize your effectiveness while out and about.

But what sets an EDC backpack apart from just your everyday run of the mill Jansport? What features should you key in on when looking for an EDC backpack?

Not to worry! We’re going to do a deep dive that’ll answer both of those questions and more! Here is not only a comprehensive buying guide for EDC backpacks, but a list of the 7 best EDC backpacks on the market in 2024.

Simply put, an everyday carry backpack is an extension for your EDC loadout so that you can carry more gear efficiently. They’re incredibly durable to stand up to the grind of being used day in and day out.

The biggest key word about EDC backpacks is that they help you be more efficient. That means that EDC backpacks are also not cumbersome. A good EDC pack isn’t the same thing as a large 60L pack that you’d through your camping gear into for a couple nights in the wilderness. It’s small enough that it won’t inhibit your mobility as you wear it through-out your day while it securely carries the rest of your EDC load out.

7 Best EDC Backpacks in 2022

Now that we’ve properly defined what an EDC backpack is, let’s talk a bit about the features you want to be on the lookout for when you decide to start shopping for an EDC backpack. As we mentioned earlier, not all backpacks are created equal!

– Durability –

An EDC backpack must be able to stand up to the rigor of being used day in and day out. Keep an eye out for the material that the pack’s exterior as well as interior is made from. The toughest packs used nylon that is rated between 840D and 1680D ripstop nylon. Keep in mind that the higher the nylon rating, the bulkier and heavier the pack will be.

– Size –

Your EDC pack should be small enough that it’s easy to carry in a multitude of areas, but big enough to fit all of your EDC kit. Sizes are usually measured in liters. A good size for an EDC pack should be somewhere between 14 liters and 26 liters. Any smaller than 14 liters will limit the effectiveness of your pack and anything bigger than 26 liters will make it cumbersome to carry the pack everywhere you need to go.

– Storage –

Interior organization is an important factor to consider. While you can randomly stuff your EDC kit into the main body of the pack, it’ll make finding your gear a nightmare as you’ll likely need to unpack everything to find the piece of gear you need. Individual zippered pockets help to maximize your storage inside of the pack to make finding your gear a breeze, so be on the lookout for interior zippered pockets.

– Warranty –

As we’ve said time and time again, warranty is one of the best ways to tell how confident a company is in their product. While most companies offer some sort of limited warranty, they usually can’t hold a candle next to lifetime warranties. Companies that offer unlimited lifetime warranties typically design some of the most dependable and durable backpacks on the market, so be sure to double check the warranty of offered with the pack you’re interested in purchasing before buying.

1) Vanquest – ADDAX 18 Backpack

The Vanquest ADDAX 18 stands apart from most EDC backpacks in one surprising area: its high-vis interior. Blaze orange nylon fabric lines the inside of the backpack to make finding your gear in practically any light a non-factor.

The interior of the pack is divided up into 15 different pockets and slots, making it easier than ever to immaculately organize each piece of your EDC kit. With 18 liters of storage space inside of its water repellant exterior, you can rest assured that your gear is well protected.

One area to keep in mind when considering the Vanquest ADDAX 18 is that it has a limited lifetime warranty. While it does come with a 100-day money back guarantee, Vanquest limits warranty claims to defects with the manufacturing only. Everyday wear and tear isn’t covered by the warranty, so if you end up needing to get your pack repaired, you will likely incur some fees to have Vanquest repair it for you.

2) GoRuck – GR1

For a bigger pack with a beefier warranty, definitely checkout the GoRuck GR1. Coming in two sizes, 21 liters and 26 liters, the GR1 is capable of holding all of your essentials inside of its tough interior. The reinforced padding in the shoulder straps makes carrying practically any load feel like nothing at all, so load it down as much as you like! The extra padding in the shoulder straps is also assisted by a removeable hard plastic frame so that the pack remains rigid to improve stability as you carry it.

The warranty that protects the GR1 is incredibly generous. Covered by the GoRuck Scars Lifetime Warranty, you can send it back to GoRuck for repair for practically any reason. And if GoRuck can’t fix it, they’ll replace your pack free of charge.

The one area that the GR1 lacks in is its interior storage organization. While there are 3 different slots to store your gear in, there aren’t interior pockets to niche down your organization.

3) AER – City Pack

AER - City Pack

If you’re in need of a smaller pack, don’t sleep on the AER City Pack. The 14 liter interior is lined with interior zippered pockets to make organization incredibly easy. And while the shoulder straps aren’t as beefy as the GR1, the contoured back panel of the pack curves to the shape of your back for comfortable all-day carry.

Something that makes the City Pack unique is that it is designed with a specific “smart tracker” pocket. This allows you to insert a small tracker like AirTags, Tile Trackers, or even the Chipolo Tracker. Having a GPS tracker on board will ensure that your backpack is within arm’s reach, no matter what.

But like the Vanquest ADDAX 18, the City pack is only covered with a limited lifetime warranty. While it does cover manufacturing defects, normal wear and tear isn’t covered and can only be used with proof of purchase (aka, you have to hang onto your original receipt).

4) Vertx- Gamut 2.0 Backpack

Vertx- Gamut 2.0 Backpack

For those who intend to carry a firearm with them in their EDC kit, the Vertx Gamut 2.0 is the ideal pack for you. Not only does the pack have a concealed area to holster a handgun and an extra magazine, but the top of the pack also comes with a quick draw retention loop that allows you to quickly access your EDC firearm at a moment’s notice. When not used for carrying a EDC firearm, the back panel can easily be used to carry a 16” laptop comfortably.

The 180° front pocket is a great design feature as it makes loading the front slot of the pack a breeze. And when you open it up to access your gear, you’ll find plenty of organizational slots to quickly find the exact piece of gear you need.

One area that the Gamut 2.0 lacks in is its exterior water bottle pocket size. It’s fairly small and only able to accommodate a 16 oz. water bottle. So if you’re looking to carry a larger water bottle like a Nalgene or a Hydroflask, you’ll likely need to store your bottle inside the pack.

5) Peak Design- Everyday Pack

Peak Design- Everyday Pack

If you’re into digital media creation or just want to ensure that each piece of your EDC kit has a slot to rest in, look no further than the Peak Design Everyday Pack. The Everyday Pack is a highly organized machine as the top flap of the pack opens up to reveal several small dividers that meticulously organize the 20 liters of interior storage space.

Carrying the Everyday pack is incredibly comfortable. With vented quick dry mesh lining the back panel and shoulder straps that pivot to match the contour of your back, you can carry the Everyday pack every day and all day without issue.

Another unique feature of the Everyday Pack is that it comes with stowable exterior straps on the exterior of the main body of the pack so you can cinch down a myriad of other items that won’t fit inside of the pack. Whether it’s a rain jacket, blanket, or anything else that’s too big to fit inside the interior of the pack, the Everyday Pack has a way to help you carry your gear where you need it to go.

6) Mystery Ranch- Rip Ruck 15

Mystery Ranch- Rip Ruck 15

Mystery Ranch is a well-known brand in the hunting community. They’ve consistently built packs that are capable of packing in all of your hunting gear for a backcountry excursion and capable of packing out your camp plus practically all the meat you can carry from a successful hunt. The bottom line here is that Mystery Ranch knows how to make long lasting packs that are comfortable enough to carry the heaviest of loads.

Their experience in designing packs that make heavy loads feel like nothing at all makes them immensely qualified to offer the Rip Ruck 15 as their go to EDC backpack. With a top open compartment to access the main body of the pack, they’ve made it easier than ever to access each piece of gear inside of your EDC kit. The lid also comes outfitted with a couple of rows of MOLLE to make it easy to add additional storage options to the pack so you can customize it to your liking.

7) Alpaka- Elements Backpack

Alpaka- Elements Backpack

One of the most secure packs on our list is the Alpaka Elements Backpack. The anti-theft lockable zippers allow you to pass a small lock through the eyes of the zippers to ensure that all of your gear stays safe from anyone who’d want to rifle through your pack while you aren’t watching. The interior of the pack is loaded with organizational pockets to help you find a place for each piece of your EDC kit.

The most unique feature of the Elements Backpack is the row of nylon loops that allow you to place Alpaka’s quick detach clips for any small and frequently used pieces of gear that you carry. Simply attach the QD ring to the exterior of the piece of gear you want to be able to pull from your pack and clip it to the QD clip. Feed the gear into the QD clip and your gear is held in place securely until you need to grab it!

Alrighty, we’ve gone over a lot, so let’s recap. EDC backpacks are made from some of the most durable materials on the market to stand up to the wear and tear of everyday use. They’re perfectly suited to carry your essentials that help you get through each day, but not too big that carrying it would be cumbersome. Their storage organization is second to none, making finding each and every piece of your EDC kit a non-factor, even in low light scenarios. And they’re backed by a warranty that will repair or replace your pack at no cost to you!

Designed specifically for break barrel air rifles, our advanced formula ensures smooth and consistent operation, enhancing accuracy and longevity. Say goodbye to friction and wear, as our high-quality oil reduces noise and recoil while protecting vital components. Elevate your shooting experience with Break Barrel Air Rifle Oil – the ultimate choice for every avid shooter.

break barrel air rifle oil

break barrel air rifle oil

When it comes to maintaining your break barrel air rifle, using the right oil is crucial. Break barrel air rifles require regular lubrication to ensure smooth operation and extend their lifespan. Break barrel air rifle oil is specially formulated to provide superior lubrication and protect the internal components of your rifle. It helps reduce friction between moving parts, preventing wear and tear, and ensuring consistent performance shot after shot. Whether you are a seasoned shooter or a beginner, investing in high-quality break barrel air rifle oil is essential for optimal maintenance.

One of the key benefits of using break barrel air rifle oil is its ability to prevent rust and corrosion. As break barrel air rifles are often used outdoors, they are exposed to various weather conditions that can cause metal parts to deteriorate over time. Applying a thin layer of oil on the metal surfaces creates a protective barrier against moisture and other elements, significantly reducing the risk of rust formation. Regular application of break barrel air rifle oil not only keeps your rifle looking great but also ensures its longevity.

In addition to lubrication and rust prevention, break barrel air rifle oil also helps improve overall accuracy. By reducing friction between critical components such as the piston and spring, it allows for smoother cocking and firing cycles. This translates into more consistent power output and enhanced precision with each shot. Whether you use your break barrel air rifle for target shooting or hunting, utilizing the right oil will contribute to better performance and increased enjoyment of your shooting experience.

In conclusion, using the right oil for your break barrel air rifle is crucial for its maintenance and longevity. Regular lubrication with high-quality oils will ensure smooth and efficient performance, preventing damage to the mechanism. Remember to follow manufacturer guidelines and consult experts if needed. Keep your break barrel air rifle well-oiled for optimal shooting experiences.

Animal Jam Sheep Cloak – How to Get This Rare

0

There are clothing items and den items in Animal Jam that can only be obtained during certain events in the game. The Sheep Cloak is one of those items. It was released on January 20, 2017, and was obtainable as a gift for completing the Message In A Bottle event.

The Message In A Bottle event started on October 27, 2016, and lasted until January 20, 2017. If you managed to partake in the event between those dates, and complete it, you had a chance to obtain amazing prizes. On the last day of the event, the Sheep Cloak was rewarded to those that completed it. This means that you only had a day to obtain it, making it extremely rare.

Sheep Cloak Appearance

The Sheep Cloak almost looks like a giant ball of sheep fleece. There are curls all around it, and when you put it on your animal, it will look like a ball of fur. The cloak is definitely puffier and larger than you would expect. There are two variants available; the regular grey/white one, and a glitched, full magenta variant. This is what the regular Sheep Cloak looks like.

Glitched Sheep Cloak – Magenta

If you completed the Message In A Bottle event within the first hour of release, the Sheep Cloak you would receive would be glitched. The glitched version is full magenta, instead of the regular grey/white. You can see what the glitched variant looks like in the picture below.

How to Get a Sheep Cloak in Animal Jam

There is currently only one way to obtain the Sheep Cloak, which is by trading. This method will take a lot of patience, and will require you to offer up your own valuable items, but it works! It is no longer possible to obtain the Sheep Cloak by completing the Message In A Bottle event.

Trading

The Sheep Cloak is currently valued extremely high. You will not be able to persuade a trader to put up their Sheep Cloak against your regular items. On several Animal Jam trading forums, you will find players asking for a Sheep Cloak, but traders comment that their offers are far too low.

If you are a collector on Animal Jam, you probably have valuable items of your own. Offering up those items for the Sheep Cloak is your only way to even get a chance of obtaining one. Keep in mind that, while the cloak is extremely valuable, it is not worth it losing all your items over. You will always get a chance to obtain it. However, it will just take a lot of time, as well as patience.

AJ Sheep Cloak Codes

There are currently no working codes for the Sheep Cloak, and there probably never will be any. If you weren’t around for the Message In A Bottle event, and you are not willing to trade for it, you will not have a chance to ever obtaining one for yourself. Any website claiming they have working codes for the Sheep Cloak is out to scam you, and you should stay far away from them!

The Best Sights for Glock 34 in 2024

0

Today I’m going to show you the best sights for Glock 34.

In fact:

I’ve hand- tested over 10sights alone for this review.

The best part?

I’ve sorted the sights by use. So whether you’re on a budget or need the best Glock 34 sight, you’ll find it here.

Let’s dive in!

The Best Sights for Glock 34

If you’re pressed on time, here’s a quick list of the best Glock 34 sights:

  1. TRUGLO TFX Pro Tritium and Fiber Optic: Best Competition Sights for Glock 34
  2. TRUGLO Tritium: Best Budget Sights for Glock 34
  3. Trijicon HD XR Night Sight Set: Best Night Sights for Glock 34
  4. AMERIGLO GL-125 Ghost Ring Green: Best Ghost Ring Sights for Glock 34

1. TRUGLO TFX Pro Tritium and Fiber Optic: Best Competition Sights for Glock 34

The TRUGLO TFX Pro Tritium Fiber Optic Sight is the best competition sight for Glocks.

In fact:

TRUGLO TFX Pro has completely transformed my results in short-range competitions. Since I began using them, my shot groupings are tighter, and my accuracy improved.

Sound like something you’re interested in?

Tritium and Fiber Optics

One of my favorite features about the TFX Pro is the combination of tritium and fiber optics.

While tritium continuously glows, it’s best suited for night and lowlight because its luminescence isn’t noticeable in bright light. The fiber optic compensates for tritium’s daytime dullness because it absorbs ambient light, enabling it to glow in bright settings.

While I use these sights mainly for competition—usually in well-lit ranges—being able to rely on the tritium fiber optic combo assures me that I’m well-equipped to handle any self-defense scenario in all lighting conditions.

Eye Relief & Eye Box

The eye relief is unlimited.

This is great because—in addition to keeping both eyes open—I can get a sight picture from various distances and at different angles.

This is especially useful for self-defense, as these scenarios often unfold quickly with little time to aim.

Durability

The TFX Pro is built like the Titanic.

The rods are made from CNC machined steel coated with TRUGLO’s Fortress Finish, making it wear-resistant.

Unlike older TRUGLO sights, the tritium and fiber optics are hermetically sealed in the TFX Pro. This is great because it prevents damage during usage and also protects the tritium and fiber optics from oils, chemicals, and cleaning solvents.

While this means that the front sight is a bit longer, it ensures that your tritium and fiber optics are protected.

I don’t get hung up with the longer front sight, but I can see how it might be a hassle if you’re using a holster. So make sure to assess whether adding these sights impacts the ease with which you draw your weapon.

The rear sights come with a tensioning screw for the dovetail, so they don’t budge—even if you hit them. I appreciate the added security because it ensures that your rear sights stay put when doing one-handed manipulations.

A perk to the tritium and fiber optics is that it’s battery-free and long-lasting since tritium and fiber optics have a half-life of 12 years.

Front and Rear Sights

The contrast between the orange ring and the three green dots in the sight picture makes acquisition seamless and improves accuracy.

Although the orange ring dims in low light, it didn’t stop me from getting a good sight picture.

The rear sights’ U-notch design also promotes quick acquisition, and its elevated ledges make for easy one-handed manipulations.

I find that the U-notch’s width also provides adequate spacing between the rear and front sights in my sight picture, which helps accuracy.

Installation

Both front and rear sights are easy to install.

The sights come with an Allen wrench and tensioning screw, but I also used a

TRUGLO front sight tool:

A sight pusher:

And 242 Blue Loctite:

Just make sure that the front sight is installed tightly. Otherwise, it’ll be wobbly.

If you don’t want to install it on your own—or don’t own tools and don’t want to buy them—drop by your gunsmith for an installment.

Is the TRUGLO TFX Pro worth it?

If you want to compete with a Glock, or want sights that are optimal for self-defense, get the TRUGLO TFX Pro.

It’s got:

  • Strong build
  • Easy one-hand operation
  • Around the clock visibility
  • Quick focus and accuracy

You should know that TRUGLO only honors the 12-year warranty if your sights are installed by a licensed gunsmith. So if it’s detectable that you installed them, the warranty is voided.

Honestly, for the price, I think these are great sights. They’re made with quality material, and the Fortress Finish provides excellent protection, so you shouldn’t run into any longevity or functionality issues.

So if you’re looking for simple, but accurate and easy to use sights that are always ready to go, I would definitely buy the TRUGLO TFX Pro.

2. TRUGLO Tritium: Best Budget Sights for Glock 34

TRUGLO Tritium Night Sights are the best budget sights for the Glock 34.

In fact:

I used to have these mounted on my home defense and concealed carry pistols because of their unparalleled performance and price.

Here’s what I like about them…

Sights

These sights use the familiar three-dot design: two glowing green dots on the rear sight and one green dot on the front.

In the brighter lighting, the rear sights turn black while the front sight turns white to match the large focus and lock ring.

So, even in the daylight, these sights are guiding my eye for faster, more accurate target acquisition.

Tritium And Fiber Optics

What really makes these sights stand out is the dual tritium and fiber optic feature.

The tritium green dots glow at night without batteries, while the fiber optic white sights gather and magnify the light from the surrounding area. So they’re good in daylight, low light and no light situations.

I can use them while hunting day or night, but I also like having them for home defense.

You never know what the situation could look like, so knowing that I can use them in dim or no light situations puts me at ease.

Notch Style and Design

I have these sights on a couple of different guns, but I prefer them on my Glock 34.

I test and work with a lot of different pistols, so switching to the Glock with a heavier barrel always throws off my accuracy. Using sights, especially ones that perform to the caliber that these do, help me.

The U-Notch rear sight is designed for fast accuracy, not beauty.

The rear sight doesn’t blend well with the slide. It’s ugly to say the least, but it’s more than functional.

The angled rear sight also lets me rack the gun with one hand right off my belt — another great feature for home defense.

Durability

The TRUGLO Tritium is far more durable than any other sights in their price range, but they’re not indestructible.

I’ve shot hundreds and hundreds of rounds with these sights on my Glock 34. But, I noticed that after maybe 500 rounds, the front sight had come loose.

So if you intend on putting thousands of rounds through your gun, I’d go for a higher end glock 34 sight, like the TFX Pro.

Speaking of sights, if you’re looking for a high-end, mid-level priced optic, check out my review on the Leupold VX-R.

Mounting & Installation

You don’t have to make a special trip to a gunsmith to have these installed.

It took me less than 10 minutes to install these on my Glock 34. The front sight takes a hexagonal screw, while the rear sight is installed with an allen screw.

The drawback to the longer front sight is that it sticks out over the cutout on the top of the slide on the 34 (and 35) Glock. Not only does this not look as clean, but it can also compromise the sight’s lifetime.

What I did to fix this was to use some Loctite Threadlocker Blue 242 to prevent the screws loosening over time. I haven’t had an issue since.

Is the TRUGLO Tritium worth it?

Because of their performance in low-light and no-light situations, I love these sights for my home and self-defense Glock 34. The snag-resistant design gives me a clean draw every time, so I’m ready faster.

If you’re looking for an affordable sight that outperforms its cost, these are the sights for you. Here’s why:

  • Affordable
  • U-Notch rear sight
  • Tritium and Fiber Optic
  • 12 year, limited warranty
  • Unmatched visibility in all light conditions

In other words:

These sights have all of the premium features at half the cost. That’s why they’re my go-to for home and self-defense pistol sights.

With all the money I save, that’s more that I can put toward buying ammo and more time shooting.

So if you’re looking for the best night sights for your Glock 34 that won’t break the bank, I wouldn’t think twice about getting the TRUGLO Tritium Night Sights.

3. Trijicon HD XR Night Sight Set: Best Night Sights for Glock 34

The Trijicon HD XR Night Sight Set is a fantastic set of self-luminous iron sights for use in all lighting conditions.

In fact, I think they are the best night sights available for the Glock 34.

Let’s find out why…

Visibility

Hands down, these are the most visible pistol iron sights I’ve ever used. And I’ve tested them in all lighting conditions.

Sight acquisition during low light and night conditions is fantastic. The green lamp tubes in the sights glow very brightly in the dark. I really like this feature on my home defense Glock, because if I need it, odds are I will need it at night!

But these sights are also great during the daytime. The lamp tubes are housed within an orange outer ring which is insanely easy to see in the light.

In fact, even if you don’t plan on doing much night shooting, I still recommend these sights just for the orange ring alone. It’s that good.

Accuracy

Simply put, these iron sights are very accurate.

I mounted them on my Glock 34 and the point of impact is right above the front post.

And after months of regular shooting, I haven’t noticed any shifting at all.

I also noticed that the HD XR has a thinner front post than most other iron sights.

The thinner post doesn’t obscure your target. This is great for shooting at longer ranges, and allows for better target identification at any distance.

Durability

The HD XR Night Sights are very durable.

This is because the lamp tubes are held in an anodized aluminum frame.

This makes them much stronger than standard plastic Glock sights, but still keeps them very light.

Mounting

You’ll want to have these installed by a professional using proper gunsmithing tools.

So take a quick trip to the gunsmith, and you’ll be all set to shoot in any light conditions.

Is the Trijicon HD XR Night Sight Set worth it?

Overall, the Trijicon HD XR Night Sight Set is a fantastic set of high-visibility, durable iron sights for your Glock 34.

They’ve got:

  • Durable metal frame
  • Bright green lamp tubes for night shooting
  • High visibility orange ring for daytime shooting
  • Slim profile front post that doesn’t obscure your target

Plus, the sights are covered under Trijicon’s Limited Lifetime Warranty.

So whether you want to shoot during the day, the night, or somewhere in between, the Trijicon HD XR Night Sight Set is your best bet.

4. AMERIGLO GL-125 Ghost Ring Green: Best Ghost Ring Sights for Glock 34

The AmeriGlo GL-125 Ghost Ring is a highly accurate, highly visible ghost ring custom tailored for Glock pistols.

In fact, it’s the best ghost ring you can buy for the Glock 34.

I don’t make this claim lightly. Read on to find out why the GL-125 is the best Glock 34 ghost ring on the market.

Accuracy

The GL-125 is incredibly accurate.

This is due to the design of the ghost ring, which uses an aperture instead of a traditional notch for the rear sight. Basically, it’s a circle, so it draws the eye naturally to the center while allowing you to focus on the front post.

This helps you level your pistol both correctly and quickly, which makes for accurate shots. Target acquisition is quicker with a ghost ring too, which is great for use with a defense weapon.

In fact, since using the GL-125 on my Glock 34, I’ve noticed that my shooting with all pistols has improved. The skills I’m perfecting by using the ghost ring transfer well even to the standard notch-and post sights on most of my other handguns.

Visibility

This ghost ring shows up perfectly well in any lighting conditions.

The tritium lamps glow a very bright green, which is easy to see in low-light or even total darkness.

And the white circle around the lamp on the front post is very easy to pick up in the daylight.

This means that day or night, you’ll be able to reliably put shots on target.

Durability

This ghost ring is insanely durable.

The ghost ring and front post are both made with a steel frame, so they can take all kinds of abuse.

I’ve even practiced racking the slide on my Glock one handed, using the sights and my belt, and they didn’t budge. Hopefully I’ll never need to use that skill, but it’s good to know I can do it in an emergency!

Mounting

Installing the GL-125 was a breeze. I didn’t even have to take it to the gunsmith.

Just snap them in place, and get to shooting.

Is the AMERIGLO GL-125 Ghost Ring worth it?

Overall, the AmeriGlo GL-125 Ghost Ring is a fantastic all-purpose Glock sight suitable for all shooting conditions.

It’s got:

  • High durability
  • Easy self-installation
  • Aperture-style rear sight
  • White circle for day shooting
  • Bright green tritium lamps for night shooting

And if all that isn’t enough, the ghost ring is covered by AmeriGlo’s standard warranty.
