Elk recordings are the next best thing to hearing them in real life. Most of us don’t live where we can listen to elk year round. Now you can. Many elk hunters only get to listen to elk on a rare annual hunt, if they are lucky and skillful enough to get close.

On this page you now have access to actual recordings of live elk in the wild. From majestic sounding regal elk bugles to cow elk calls and calf chirps. Here you will find dozens of elk recordings of all varieties of bull bugles, grunts and chuckles. You can listen to lots of cow talk, including the estrus whine. There is a very long recording of a lost elk calf that walks up close to the microphone (in response to a hunter making a cow call).
The elk recordings are grouped into loose categories for ease of use, but some sound bytes have both cows and bulls in them, as well as other animals, like coyotes, woodpeckers, squirrels, etc. The recordings are high quality, so the sounds of the forest are in the background, like the sound of creeks flowing.

Cow Sounds
Cows and calves talk year round, as do bulls. Calves make shorter, higher sounds than cows. Mature cow elk often have a raspy ending to their mews.
