One of the most common questions of any guest planning their trip to Kasba Lake Lodge is around the type of gear to use when fishing for Lake Trout. People often ask what type of fishing line and lures will result in catching the biggest, monster trout. Lets clear that up.

Best Fishing Line for Lake Trout: Braided Line or Monofilament?

There are pros and cons to using both of these types of fishing line while fishing for trout -but there is no doubt that Braided line has certainly become the most popular option. Braided line is durable, has no memory, and casts extremely well. But is it the best option when fishing for Lake Trout?

In my opinion Monofilament line is actually more effective when Lake Trout fishing. The big difference comes down to “Stretch”. Lake Trout do not have the toughest mouths, and having a bit of stretch in the line (as monofilament lines has) I have found leads to better and more consistent hookups. Braided line has zero stretch, and thus when setting the hook on a Lake Trout special care must be given to not rip the hook from the fish’s mouth.

Best Lake Trout Lures

When Lake Trout are hitting, these aggressive biting fish will hit almost anything and you don’t need to worry too much about which lures you use. However, when the Lake Trout bite is off spending some forethought on what your throwing on the end of your line can really make a difference. The lures recommended below are tried, tested, and true for the waters of Kasba Lake for catching Lake Trout.
