Gamo Bone Collector Bull Whisper IGT Review

gamo bone collector bull whisper igt air rifle | gamo bone collector bull whisper igt air rifle review | gamo bone collector bull whisper igt air rifle accuracy

Remember the “Bone Collector” movie?

When I heard that there is a gun named Bone Collector, I though that Angelina Jolie has switched her hobby from child-raising and charity to shooting sport.

Actually, she hasn’t.

In fact, the Bone Collector is designed in collaboration with Micheal Waddel and Travis “T Bone” Turner of the Bone Collector TV series. The series portraits the culture of hunters and the brotherhood of sportsmen. Therefore, it is no surprise when the gun is built on a forest theme: a special hunter green, composite stock with dark grey rubber grip insert. And the cool Bone Collector logo is prominently shown on the synthetic, high-grade stock. Gamo really knows how to catch our attention!

Crosman Vantage NP Review

crosman vantage nitro piston .177 with scope air rifle velocity | crosman vantage nitro piston .177 with scope air rifle power

Don’t let the mediocre look of the product images fool you about this rifle. This gun could be the best value gun you can find on the market.

Read more to find out why.

Gun Type

crosman vantage np .177 air rifle with scope | crosman vantage np .177 air rifle with scope review

Crosman Vantage NP .177 is powered by Nitro Piston Technology. A nitro piston gun (or gas-piston gun) works the same as the spring gun but it has a nitrogen-filled cylinder instead of coiled spring. The air in the cylinder is already compressed and you put more pressure to it when you cock the gun. The pressurized air is kept under tension until you pull the trigger. When you fire, the pellet is propelled out of the barrel due to the driving force from compressed air. Compared to springer, nitro piston rifle is lighter and easier to cock. Besides, it lasts longer and can be left cocked for days without spring fatigue. Read more about nitro piston technology here to see how it can make your gun sport more exciting.

Crosman Vantage NP has a caliber (the internal diameter of the bore) of .177 ( 4.5 millimeter). It is single-shot, break barrel gun so it means that you can only shoot 1 shot at a time. After first shot, you have to reload the pellet manually to prepare for the second shot. Single-shot gun makes you a better shooter: you have to make your shot count since you have only 1 chance to hit the target until reloading. Besides, you have total control over the ammunition you want to shoot and you can find out what pellet works best with the gun in the shortest amount of time.

The barrel is rifled with helical grooves inside the bore to make the bullet spin. Spin gives you stability and more accuracy and enhances shooting range.

Stock

The stock is made of handsome, brown hardwood so it can endure impact, stress and collision in daily life. Moreover, hardwood can be refinished easily at anytime so it has very long lifespan. Plus, the stock is ambidextrous so you can use this gun with ease whether you are a lefty or a righty.

Ammo

Crosman Vantage NP uses .177 pellets as its only source of ammunition. Since the .177 is the standard caliber accepted by all global 10 meters shooting organization, .177 air gun are generally accurate than other types of air rifles due to the given extra attention for it. Besides, .177 is the easiest to find pellet in the store today and often cost less money than .22 or .25 pellets so it’s very cost-effective if you shoot a lot.

Cocking and Loading

crosman vantage nitro piston .177 with scope air rifle price | crosman vantage nitro piston .177 with scope air rifle trigger

Cocking the gun: First, put the gun ON SAFE, hold the gun by your side, then firmly tap the muzzle end to expose the breech. Let the gun rest on your upper thigh and grasp the muzzle end. Continue to pull the barrel down to its limitation to perform cocking action

Loading the pellet: With the breech open after cocking, put the pellet (with the pellet’s nose lying forward) into the breech. Then pull the barrel up to its original position until it locks and you are ready to fire

Sight

crosman vantage np .177 air rifle with scope stock | crosman vantage np .177 air rifle with scope accuracy

Crosman Vantage NP comes with traditional open sight which is elevated to satisfy the most picky shooters: The front sight is a fiber optic sight that uses optical fiber for the dot so that it’s brighter than the dark surrounding. The rear sight is fiber optic sight, too, and it is fully adjustable for windage (allow you to adjust the sight left and right) and for elevation (allow you to adjust the sight up and down). Fiber optic sight gives you huge advantage in low-light condition and it provides faster target acquisition in normal circumstances.

Velocity. Power and Accuracy

This air rifle boasts the velocity up to 1200 FPS, which makes this rifle belong to the magnum class of air gun. Since the speed of sound is about 1100 FPS (vary with altitude and temperature), you can hear the loud crack if you use lightweight projectile when shooting due to the super-fast pellet breaks the sound barrier.

Chrony tests give us the following results: This nitro piston rifle delivers 930 FPS and 15.18 FPE with Crosman Premiere Hollow Point pellet 7.9 grains. Although it’s not near the stated number of manufacturer, it stills gives you more than enough knock down power to take care of birds, starling, squirrels, etc.

For Crosman Vantage NP, various shootings tests have been conducted by different shooters with positive results. The common shooting groups are 1-2” at 30 yards, dime size at 40 feet, 1” at 30 yards, less than 1” at 25 yards, 3/4″ at 20 yards, 1/2″ to 1 1/2″ at 35 feet and 1.5” at 50 feet. As you can see, this gun is a tack driver up to 30 yards.

Shooting range and intended use

The effective shooting range of this gas piston rifle is up to 30 yards. You can use this gun for tartget shooting, plinking, small game hunting and pest control

Maintenance

Crosman Vantage NP requires little maintenance: Just remember to oil your gun with Crosman RMCOIL Chamber Oil to keep it as good as new.

Noise

Remember the claims of Crosman that Nitro Piston reduces 70% less noise? Well, it’s true in this case. The Crosman Vantage received lots of praise about its quietness, some shooters said that this gun’s even quiet like Benjamin Titan or Crosman Nitro Venom.

Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk .22 Review

crosman nitro venom dusk break barrel .22 air rifle | crosman nitro venom dusk break barrel .22 air rifle review

The Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk .22 is the twin brother of the Nitro Venom rifle. As the twins, they share lots of common features such as powerplant, caliber, design style and so on.

But the things that differentiate this one from its brother also are the plus points that make it stand out in the market.

Gun Type

Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk .22 is powered by Nitro piston technology. A nitro piston gun (or gas piston gun) works the same as the spring gun but it has a gas-filled cylinder instead of coiled spring. The air in the cylinder is already compressed and you apply more pressure to it when you cock the gun. The pressurized air is kept under tension until you pull the trigger. When you fire, the pellet is propelled out of the barrel due to the driving force from compressed air. Nitro piston rifle is lighter, easier to cock and lasts longer than springers. You can read more about its pros and cons in this post for more detail.

Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk has a caliber(the internal diameter of the bore) of .22 (5.5 millimeter). While .177 only have enough power to shoot rat, mice, chipmunk and rabbit, .22 is more than enough to handle raccoon, possum, and ground hog. this gun provides the necessary power and energy you need to humanely dispatch your prey.

The barrel is rifled with helical grooves inside the bore to make bullet spin. Spin stabilizes pellet, improves accuracy and enhances shooting range. Besides, the barrel is fluted (cutting out material from the cylindrical surface), so it is lighter and dissipates heat quicker. Moreover, there is the muzzle brake at the tip of the bore that redirects propellant gas to counter recoil.Remember why your rifle kickbacks: because the gas pushes the pellet in one way also move the barrel in the opposite direction. So if you want to reduce recoil, you have to change the direction of the released gas. the muzzle brake takes the form of 2 inches tube located on the muzzle and diverts gas 90 degrees around the barrel. The result? Muzzle brake cuts the recoil up to 50 percent which is no-brainer for most shooters.

Stock

The stock is black synthetic stock. Unlike woodstock which is heavy and easily affected by moisture and temperature, synthetic stock is lighter and functions perfectly under any type of weather. Additionally, modern synthetic stock is robust, durable and easy to stand up against the rigor of the field use so it’s best for hunters who go hunting a lot and for shooters who want to own a maintenance-free air rifle.

The stock has dual raised cheekpiece (dual comb) that located on both left side and right side of the stock. A dual comb is helpful if you are left-handed shooter. Also, this gun has deep grooves on the grip and forearm that add friction to your hands when shooting, prevent slippage from shooter’s sweat and improve stability in aiming.

crosman nitro venom dusk break barrel .22 air rifle price

What makes the stock stand out in the market is its special forearm. The foregrip is designed in beaver-tail style to promote the artillery hold shooting position. The wider surface area of the forearm is designed to rest on the palm of your hand and let it “float” naturally so you can let the gun recoil in any way it wants and achieve improved accuracy.

Ammo

Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk uses .22 pellet as its only source of ammunition. While .177 pellet is lighter and often doesn’t have enough knockdown power to take out animal in 1 shot, .22 is heavier, more stable on its trajectory and hits the target with serious authority so it’s go-to pellet of field hunters and pest eliminators.

Cocking and Loading

crosman nitro venom dusk break barrel .22 air gun | crosman nitro venom dusk break barrel .22 air gun review

Cocking the gun: First, put the gun ON SAFE, hold the gun by your side, then firmly tap the muzzle end to expose the breech. Let the gun rest on your upper thigh and grasp the muzzle end. Continue to pull the barrel down to its limitation to perform cocking action.

Loading the pellet: With the breech opened after cocking, put the pellet (with the pellet’s nose lying forward) into the breech. Then pull the barrel up to its original position until it locks and you are ready to fire.

Sight

crosman nitro venom dusk break barrel .22 air rifle black synthetic stock

This gun doesn’t come with traditional iron sight: no front sight, no rear sight. But it does have a 4×32 scope to help you get accurate shots. 32 is the diameter of the front lens, measured in millimeters. 4 is the magnification ability of the scope. This scope magnifies the picture 4 times bigger than the image you see without it. In case you want to upgrade the scope, Crosman has installed the accessory rail to help you do just that. The rail is manufactured in the Picatinny style. A Picatinny rail is almost identical to the weaver rail, except there is a series of ridges locating at precise intervals along the rail. The Picatinny rail gives you more mounting option and you can swap scope from one gun to another. Also, no more worrying about tube length, eye relief, etc since you can place scope rings any place you want.

Velocity, power and Accuracy

This nitro piston rifle has the velocity up to 950 FPS with alloy pellet and 800 FPS with lead. This is high velocity compared to other .22 air guns on the market. These kinds of velocity combines with .22 caliber give you a whopping 20 FPE in muzzle energy which is more than enough to deal with raccoons, rabbits, squirrel, chipmunk, possum, etc in 1 quick, clean shot.

crosman nitro venom dusk break barrel .22 air rifle sight | crosman nitro venom dusk break barrel .22 air rifle scope

Chrony test gives us following results: This break barrel rifle delivers 644 FPS and 16.7 FPE with 18.1 grains JSB pellet, 800 FPS with JSB Match diabolo Exact Jumbo, and 705 FPS and 15.79 FPE with 14.3 gr Crosman Premiere hollow point. That’s pretty close to the manufacturer’s numbers and the muzzle energy’s still lethal to deal with pest and small varmints in 1 neat shot.

For Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk, various shooting tests have been conducted by different shooters with positive results. The common shooting group are: 5/8 at 10 meters, 1/4″ at 10 yards, 1/4″ at 23 yards with Crosman Premiere hollow point, dime size at 60 feet, 0.25” at 25 feet, 1/2″ at 20 yards, 3/8” at 10 meters with RWS field line superdome, 1/4″ at 50 yards, less than 1” at 25 yards, dime size at 10 yards, 1/2” at 30 yards, 1-1.5” at 40 yards, 1” at 20 yards, 1” at 40 yards with Crosman Hollow point, dime size at 25 feet, 1/4″ at 50 feet, silver dollar size at 75 feet, 1.25” at 35yards, 1/4″ at 35 yards, 1” at 25 yards, 0.5” at 10 yards, 3/4″ at 25 yards. Some shooters can even manage to get a dime size group at 40 yards, 0.5” at 50 yards and hit target at 150 yards. Obviously, this is an extremely accurate air rifle with the shooting range up to 50 yards.

Shooting range and intended use

The effective shooting range for this break-barrel gun is up to 50 yards. You can use it to shoot spinners, pop the heads of the dandelions, blow up tin cans and dispatch small garden pests

Noise

The Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk .22 produces very little noise thanks to nitro piston technology and the muzzle brake. You can shoot this gun in your back yard without bothering your neighbors or take it to the hunt with all the stealth you need.

Customer Reviews

There are plenty of customer reviews for Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk. Positive reviews show that people love its power, accuracy, great stock, and advanced technology. On the other hand, there are some issues shows in negative reviews with this gun. The first problem is many buyers complain that the gun is inaccurate out of the box. However, if you clean the barrel and apply Blue Loctite to stock screw to maintain consistent accuracy then this is a not serious problem. The second issue is the trigger: unhappy buyers say that the trigger takes too long to pull and is unstable to shoot. You can fix this by inserting a small washer to the trigger mechanism as shown in this video and it really smooths everything out in this air rifle.

Pros

  • Sturdy, durable stock
  • Remarkable slipping-proof grooves
  • Amazing muzzle brake
  • Remarkable beaver tail style
  • Stunning accuracy after break-in period
  • Mind-blowing power
  • Incredible, proven technology

Cons

Crosman MK-177 Review

crosman mk-177 tan tactical air rifle specs

You shoot 500 rounds of pellet in a row in the afternoon

The tin cans blew every where, about a dozen of them shattered in your backyard

Then, a friend called you over for the late party.

Awesome, you went to the party and drink several bottles of beer.

After going home, you felt the rain over your face when walking to your front door, and the cold feeling of the rain reminded you of one thing.

You forgot to left your gun outside and it IS raining!

You prayed that your gun is still safe and sound while rushing towards its place

Thank god it had no damage.

Now,you could breathe again. Phew.

The above story illustrates why we fall in love with synthetic guns that stand vigorously in any kind of weather.

And Crosman MK-177 is one of those guns.

Gun Type

Crosman MK-177 is a multi-pump pneumatic air rifle. It gets power from a piston and a pressure cylinder inside the chamber. When you cock it, you compress the air between the piston and the cylinder. Since the gun is sealed completely, the air has nowhere to go and is forced into the cylinder. The cylinder has a lock valve that let the air in and keep it there until you fire. When you shoot, the pellet is driven out of the barrel due to propellant force of compressed air.

Pump pneumatic air gun is compact, lightweight, recoilless and gives you control over the power of the gun . They are perfect for every shooter, whether you are 10, 30, 50, whether you are male or female, everyone can shoot a multi-pump. If you are young or small and don’t have any muscle power, put just 2 or 3 pumps in the gun and shoot it. If you like high power and have all the muscle required, you can put 10 pumps to get maximum power. You can read more about pros and cons of a pump rifle in this post.

The caliber (the internal diameter of the bore, measured in inches) is .177- the most common caliber for target shooting and plinking. Besides, the barrel is rifled with helical grooves inside the bore that make bullet spin. Spin stabilizes pellet, improves accuracy and enhances shooting range

This gun is double function air rifle: It shoots either BB or pellet and you can use whatever ammo you got at hands. It just doesn’t get any better than a versatile ammo gun. Combine this with the variable number of pumps and you’ve got every man’s air gun.

This all-new, tactical air rifle features new valve technology combining lower pumping force with higher velocity. The newly designed bolt handle is larger and located on the left side for ease of use.

Stock

The stock is a rugged all-weather synthetic. Unlike wood stock which is heavy and easily effected by weather, synthetic stock is lighter and isn’t affected by outside condition. Therefore, it is the best suit for shooters who live high high humidity place and for gunners who don’t want to bother with stock maintenance.

The stock has slight raised cheekpiece and slightly textured plastic in the grip so you can grasp this gun more tightly and line up the sight faster. Moreover, this gun has a tactical pistol grip : it orients the hand in the vertical way similar to the position one would take with a conventional pistol. Pistol grip provides comfortable feel and allows you to maneuver the gun easily.

The stock has removable rubber buttplate so you can store ammo in the handy space beneath the recoil pad

Ammo

The Crosman MK-177 uses both .177 BBs and .177 pellets as its sources of ammunition. BB is surprisingly cheap: you can buy thousand rounds of premium BBs for just few bucks. .177 pellets is inexpensive ,too. If you look at the price of .177 versus .22 pellet, you’ll see that you get twice the amount of ammo with .177 pellet for the same price . Having 2 cheapest ammo at your disposal prevents you from worrying about breaking the bank if you practice shooting a lot.

Cocking and Loading

crosman mk-177 tan tactical air rifle | crosman mk-177 tan tactical air rifle review

The funny thing about this gun is the placement of the cocking bolt on the left side while the magazine must be inserted and indexed from the right side (as opposed to Crosman M4-177 which place both of them conveniently on the right), but it’s not that big of a deal when you get used to it.

Sight

crosman mk-177 tan tactical air gun | crosman mk-177 tan tactical air gun review

The Crosman MK-177 comes with a outstanding open sight. The sight consists of a post front sight and dual aperture rearsight. The aperture sight (a.k.a peep sight) is similar to the iron sight except it has a small hole cutting through the middle of the rear sight. When aiming, shooter  look through the aperture, focus their eyes only on the front sight and the target. The eyes will automatically center the front sight and ensure the accuracy. The picture of front sight and the target is sharp and clear while the surrounding of the aperture now is only out of focus blur zone. So sometimes aperture sight is also called ghost ring sight. The aperture sight has a significant advantage compared to a factory open sight. With a traditional sight, there are 3 points you have to focus on: the target, the front sight and the rear sight. It’s really hard to focus on 3 points at the same time since they are located at different distances from the eyes. But with the aperture rearsight, there are only 2 points to focus on: the front sight and the target because the eyes automatically focus on these points at the canter of the ring. In conclusion, the aperture sight is fast to pick up, easy to acquire target and optically superior to a traditional open sight.

Velocity, Accuracy and Power

crosman mk-177 tan tactical air rifle accuracy | accessories

This multi-pump rifle has velocity up to 800 FPS with steel BB and 750 FPS with alloy pellet. This is medium velocity compared to other pellet guns and super-high velocity compared to other BB guns. This type of awe-inspiring speed set this BB/pellet rifle apart from other air guns that also shoot BB on the market.

Chrony test has given us results as follows:For 10 pumps, this Crosman MK-177 delivers 628.7 FPS with Crosman Premiere 7.9 grains pellet, 631.4 FPS with 7 gr RWS pellet, 594.5 FPS with RWS Hobby 7.0 gr, 631 FPS with 6.9 gr RWS, 621 FPS with Crosman Premiere lite, 751 FPS with Crosman SSP pointed pellet 4gr, and 669 FPS with steel BB. Although these velocities a lower than the advertised numbers, this gun still delivers enough knockdown power , about 5- 7 FPE , so it still can drop birds, crows, doves, etc and common plinking objects such as tin can, water bottle, and so on doesn’t stand a chance .

For Crosman MK-177, various shooting tests have been conducted by different shooters with positive results. The common shooting groups are: 1” at 30 feet, 1/2″ to 3/4″ at 20 yards, 1/2″ at 22 feet, 1” at 50 yards, 1.173” at 10 meters with Crosman Premiere lite, 0.839” at 10 meters with Air Arms Falcons 7.33 gr, 0.858” at 10 meters with RWS Hobby, 0.399” at 10 meters with H&N Finale Match Pistol. As you can see this is an undoubtedly accurate air rifle with the shooting range up to 20 yards.

Customer Reviews

There are lots of customer reviews of this multi-pump rifle. In positive reviews, buyers love its solid polymer stock, realistic firearm looking, fantastic accuracy and over-expected power. However, there are some negative reviews about this gun: they don’t like its location of bolt handle and its pellet storage in the buttplate but those are minor issues, though.

Pros

  • Amazing velocity
  • Awesome dual function
  • Cool tactical looking
  • Excellent open sight
  • Great stock
  • Incredible accuracy

Cons

  • Bolt handle locates on the left side makes it awkward to right handed shooters

Price

The price for Crosman Mk-177 is only about 60 dollars. For $59, or even the normal $79 price, it’s the great gun for the money that will bring you tons of fun.

There are couples of different listings on PyramydAir but the listing I found with the lowest price is the best deal you can find on the internet. Also, there is a listing on PyramydAir of the MK-177 with the red dot sight, couples of hundreds of pellet, carry-case, a safety glasses and some spare pellet clips. This listing is only about $100 and I think you should take a look at it if you want an all-in-one-package gun for your kids.

Conclusion

The Crosman MK-177 is a good air gun for father and son day at the range. If you looking for something fun to shoot and want that tactical look and feel, definitely take this gun, I’m sure you’ll be very pleased with it.

Crosman Comrade AK-Style Review

crosman comrade ak-style .177 air rifle power | accuracy | price | stock

Great gun and built in america. This semia-uto CO2 BB rifle will throw a lot of shots downrange on just one tank. It’s a real CO2 gun, making it very fun to shoot. Steel BBs are about as expensive as you can get when it comes to air gun ammo, so this gun has lots of going for it.

Gun Type

Crosman Comrade AK -177 is a CO2 powered air rifle. CO2 air gun use 12 gram carbon dioxide cartridge (CO2) as the power source instead of the spring piston. When you pull the trigger, the compressed CO2 is released and it causes the pellet move out of the barrel. CO2 gun is highly accurate, easy to cock, recoilless and consistent on a shot-to-shot basis. Besides, they have greater power than air pistol and can offer semi-automatic shot capacity that other air rifles cannot deliver, making them a great choice for recreational shooters of all ages. Read more about CO2 gun’s pros and cons here.

The barrel is smoothbore so it makes the BB travel smoothly inside the barrel, no need to worry about wearing your barrel over time since there is no groove inside the bore.

Crosman 30131 TR77 NPS Review

If you are on the mission to rescue your wife’s garden from pesky varmints, add Crosman TR 77 to your short list.

This is an accurate and powerful gun that give you familiar feel of an AR15 tactical rifle.

Gun Type

Crosman 30131 TR77 NPS is powered by nitro piston technology. A nitro piston gun (or gas piston gun) works the same as the spring gun but it has a gas-filled cylinder instead of a coilded spring. The air in the cylinder is already compressed and you apply more pressure to it when you cock the gun. The pressurized air is kept under tension until you pull the trigger. When you fire, the pellet is propelled downrange in the barrel due to the driving force from compressed air. Nitro piston rifle is lighter, last longer, less recoil and easier to cock in comparison with spring gun. Further more, it can be left cocked for days without spring fatigue. Nitro piston technology is one of the few innovation on the air gun world that makes your gun sport more breath-taking.

The caliber (the internal diameter of the bore, measured in diameters) is .177 (4.5 millimeter). .177 caliber is the most common caliber for target shooting, plinking and small game hunting. This gun is single-shot, break barrel gun so it meant that you have only 1 shot at a time. After the first shot, you have to break the barrel to prepare for the second shot. Single-shot pellet makes you discipline shooter: you know you have to make your first shot count since you have only one chance to hit the target before reloading.

The barrel is rifled with spiral grooves inside the bore to make bullet spin. Spin stabilizes pellet, improves accuracy and enhances shooting range. Besides, the barrel is cut shorter than a typical barrel (that’s why the name of this gun is NPS with the letter “S” standing for “Short” and NP representing for “Nitro Piston”) for 2 reasons: First, it gives the gun authentic tactical look. Second , with a short barrel rifle, you are good to go in the tight quarter or when maneuverability is of greatest importance. Moreover, there is a muzzle brake at the end of the bore that redirects the gas to counter recoil. A quick not about recoil: Your rifle kicks back because the gas propels the pellet in one direction also moves the barrel in the opposite direction so if you want to reduce felt recoil, you have to change the way the released gas goes. The muzzle brake takes the form of 2 inches tubes screwed onto the muzzle and diverts gas 90 degrees around the barrel. This is accomplished by the series of small parallel holes drilled in the tube. The advantages? Muzzle brake cut recoil up to 50 percent which is no-brainer for most shooter.
